Opportunity knocks????
 

I was presented with my best opportunity, this bow season, to harvest a deeryesterday evening. Walked into the woods behind my house with 30 minutes of daylight left in the day. Just happen to walk up upon a few deer walking thru a thicket on the other side of the creek. Drew my crossbow on a body of a deer, and had it in my crosshairsfrom about 20 yards. For some reason I hesitated, and begun to think of all kinds of other things, instead of pulling the trigger.I don't know if this occured because I was unable to see the head of the deer. Within 20 seconds the deer slowly moved behind a tree, with all the other deer,and my opportunity was gone just like the daylight. I'm kicking myself today for not taking the shot.

Some decisions are easier to live with. Maybe subsconsciously you hesitated because the picture wasn't perfect (sounds like that was the case) and you're ethics took over. So many deer, so little time, luckily there's tomorrow, the next day, the day after that, the day after that etc! Hey, you'll get over it, meantime you got a cheap thrill out of it!:D

I'd rather hunt with a guy that thinks before and after doing something as opposed to some one that only ponder after the fact. You are a good hunter!

Ditto's on all of the above. Congrats on being a good sportsman, there is always tomorrow and chances are they didn't even know you were there. I'd try around the same time again. Good Luck!!

Don't sweat it Dean...there are lots of days left and lots of deer in the woods.;)

I had a questionable shot on a big doe this week, she was facing me at about 30 yards. I was on her for probably about 30 seconds, but couldn't pull the trigger. I wanted to nail her, but thats not a good shot and the odds of recovery are too low to try it.
