Fletching ?

Was just wondering....What I want to know is can you put heilical vanes on crossbow arrows. I've asked this question at the local sporting goods store. And was told no because of the arrow going down the barrel. Can you do it and does it affect the accuracy like it does on a compound?

Yes you can use helical fleth on CB arrows. All of mine have it, i keep my vanes and or feathers 4" or less.

Yes you can but the amount of helical you can put on is limited by the length of the vane. A short vane like the blazer can be put on with lots of helical because it is so short. By contrast a 4 inch or longer put on an extreme helical with lots of offset will not fit into the slot. Thing is that I cannot see a difference in accuracy between a few degrees offset and a helical. Apparently (and it makes sense) lots of helical will slow down the arrow at longer distances.
BTW, how does a helical affect the accuracy on your compound?
Hope this helps.

My beielf was that the spin on the arrow helps the broadhead fly better.... kind of like the rifling in a gun barrel. Is this not right?I've shot compound for some timeusing Muzzy 3 blades. But with the xbow they just did not group. I changed heads and now have decent grouping... still not quite what I'm looking for but good enough.

I had a time getting my field points to group, i was using 5" feathers helical fletched. I had to cut an inch off of them and retaper feathers. If there is any difference in them (arrows) it will show in the group size. Feathers were hitting on both sides of arrow channel and scope mount. I have several with wraps and they hit a different spot than ones without it. Weight difference and wobble between insert and point is another problem.

I don't think they need much rotation. I believe the offset required is in the order of just a few degrees. Like I've said earlier, I've experimented with different straight and helical offsets and haven't seen a difference in accuracy. But then again, I rarely shoot off a bench.
