Frustration

Had a great weekend hunting, but a sort of frustrating one also.

Several weeks ago I went out with my new ladder stand and placed it about 7 yards from an intersection where several paths crossed.

Taking my stand and all the stuff we needed to put it up into place we used 2 four wheelers, but were careful not to take them too close to where we planned to put the stand. We stopped about 40 yards from the intended location.

I hunted it both Saturday and Sunday and saw probably 30+ animals, of which 26 of them were using the path where the 4 wheelers went through the bush. Talk about out smarting myself!!

Now I have to decide if I want to relocate closer to the 4 wheeler trail or not. There is one tree about halfway between the two where I would have had several shots at 20 or so yards, but the positioning because of wind is not as desireable as the location I have now if they had stayed on the orginal trails.

Interested in what you folks would do at this point.

RE: Frustration

it's always a tough call to move in the middle of the season.....but if the deer are'nt close enough for a shot then i don't see where you have much of a choice. if the wind direction is going to be a problem then hang your stand higher to overcome that. i can't tell you how many deer that i've shot where i had to butt out a cig. first....but most of my stands are 25 ft high for that reason. good luck.

Deer will follow the path of least resistance!

When you see those deer next time out, try a doe bleet. May just bring them right over to you.
