O-Rings...
I like to shoot all broadheads leading up to the season but they only give you a few O-Ringswith a new pack of Rocket Steelheads. I simply use a razor to cut up peep sight rubber intopieces that are about the same size as the O-rings. My Bow monkey gives me the rubber for freeas he should cause he gouges me on everything else. My only question is how do I know if the blades are opening? They seem to be. Geez I feel like Mcgiver

Planter: Watch the crap fly here, lol. Danny Miller, who you know well, says the Slick Trick 100 gr 1 /8" dia 4 blade is "the greatest b-head made". All I can say is I tend to agree, ya'll might wanna try them!!!

RE: O-Rings...
I learned how to tell with dons paper test. Set up some thin paper like news paper about two inches in front of your target. You will have to tape it up but I just put two 2*2 on the side of my target which put the paper about two inches away from target. Then taped it in place. If you have the paper to far away your vanes will tear the paper and you will not be able to tell if they opened up. Then you just shoot and look at the slice before you pull your arrows out. Good luck!

Very good Grasshopper! LOL!

RE: O-Rings...
Hotburn, if the paper is 2" in front of the target I don't think it's enough pressure to open the head before it actually hits the target.Shouldn't it be on the front of the target so when it opens it shows the marks?

RE: O-Rings...
The paper test works great to let you know if they are blowing the rings off in flight, but how can I tell if they are opening on impact? I may try the slicks next year but I have a dozen Steelheads so gotta use them first. Plus it's one more thing I don't have to buy.>>>>>>Whack!

RE: O-Rings...
The ball and chain has a nice beef roast in the fridge for Sunday dinner. I am gonna take a shot at that in the AM before she gets up. That should tell me if my peep sight rubber O-Rings are working properly and opening up on impact. If she catches me it will be me who is the dead meat.

RE: O-Rings...
Now thats funny right there! You be careful sticking that meat or you wont be sticking your meat for a while!

RE: O-Rings...
I think you may be right because you read his question right and I read it wrong. I thought he was talking about his heads opening up before the target and the paper test in front of the target is a way to tell if you are getting premature openings. I think he wants to know if they are opening up as they get into the target or staying closed and I have no idea how to tell that.

Exactly my point, perhaps your punch drunk?:D:D

RE: O-Rings...
The paper goes a few inches ahead of the target to see if the blades open in during flight. It would be pretty hard to see when they open upon impact. By virtue of design some have no choice but to open on impact. When exactly can only be determined in the medium in question. ie: shooting into an oranage or grapefruit will show you how fast a mechanical will open but only in realative (to each other) terms. This is illustrated by the size of the broadhead cut on entry and exit of the fruit. The only way is to shoot into a deer. Some mechanicals do not even try to open on entry. I forget the name of it but it appears from pictures that I've seen that they don't need an entry hole because the exit can only be termed gaping! I know for sure my Wasp Jackhammers open fast enough to give me two good holes from the deer that I've put down so I'm happy. From everything I've read Slick Tricks leave nothing to be desired. On the other hand JimC who is a world class crossbow competitor and hunter uses mechanicals for his hunting.

RE: O-Rings...
Dnk, I think Planters concern is if they are opening at all and not if they are opening prematurely. Am I mistaken?
