short shafts

Just read on Excals forum about using 18" shafts, alum inserts and 4" vanes for 330 grs w/ 100 gr b-head is giving 290 fps outta a Vixen, so ordered some for my buddies bow. Should flatten his trajectory some, which since he's too bull-headed to get a range finder, may help him this season. Are ya proud of me Jay? lol.Get a pencil thru a telephone pole yet??

awshucks,
I could throw them that fast, rangefinder what the he!! is that,I don't worry about any shot 40yds or under since I am grouping well within a hardball at that distance...Let me see, new "Exo-Mini-Max"(see I told you I would come up with a name for that)shooting 369fps with 75-95 Gold Tip XT and 75g Rocket Wolverine, with just under 100footlbs of energy(think I got enoughke to open Rockets????)I would try the 18" GT Lazer2's with 2117 carbon inserts(if you can find them, if not gowith regular 2117alum insert at both ends,do not use GT insert, it weighs about 100g)at both ends. and the 75g Rocket Wolverines, betcha pick up at least 12fps, then tell him to keep his shots within "spitting" distance and there will be no problem(heard you guys down there were hot on the spitting thing)....And by the way was that a no.1,2,3 pencil you wanted me to try that with, "anxious" to hear your reply, want to start on that project as soon as possible......

awshucks,,,,,Forgot that would be with 4" right wing feathers set with a jo-jan straight clamp, just giving a slight right wing twist, since the Rocket Wolverine is right hand twist, I don't want it tryto counter-rotate when it hits the animal and the blades open(kinda wonder how many people have thought of that) and you might want to consider double banding if speeds exceed 300fps

He Who Smokes(loco weed probably)
Had a rubberband gun that shot faster than that, get with the program smokie, this is 2006 not 1946, might as well drop cinder blocks on them(slow moving, very heavy) just as effective...Remember Mr Weatherby said it best "speed kills".....

Jay: Glad to see ya feelin better. hope all is well. fyo: we buy em, don't build em. ever since I got into re-loading .218 Bees w/ a $9.95 Lee Loader and had over $1500 tied up when I quit, I find it cheaper to just buy arrows, lol. No expandables in this camp either, 100 gr Slick Tricks. Save your "breath" on the speed thing, lol I'm using only GT L II's at either 431 or 442 gr and getting 290 outta phoenix, 328 outta the max and 317 outta the Pdox. as far as accuracy, at 30 yds mostly, my dinged arrow bucket is growing constantly! Get some bigguns!!

RE: short shafts

It weren't to long ago that Longbows were shooting 165-180 fps and recurves from 165-190 fps. They have come up into low 200 fps and compounds have recently come up into 240-280 fps. So i figure my CB at 265 fps ain't bad atall. I may get it really smoken at 280 fps! That be motovating fer true![:o][:-]:D
