G5 A.S.D

Has anyone checked the squareness of their broadhead inserts? I just got a G5 arrow squaring device and I am amazed to see that all of my inserts were not square at all. After squaring I know my broadheads will be better aligned. But then again how much more accurate can these xbows get? I guess shooting longer distances at targets will prove its effectiveness. Can't wait to check it out.

I don't check for sq. as i don't have an gage. I do put small o rings between the broadhead and shaft insert. When i tighten them up they spin nicely inline. :)

Hello Dnk,

I’ve never really seen this tool you’re talking about. How exactly do you square up the insert? I’m guessing you heat up the tip or something along those lines.

Hey GP howdie doodie! You'd be surprised at the results. Its made by G5 outdoors and cuts aluninum shafts and abrades carbons.
If you are looking for that last bit of accuracy this would help. Great when building your own shafts from scratch. Its probably something that really isn't necessary but I am kinda interested in shooting targets at much longer distances this summer just for fun.

Hey Dnk, how much did it cost and were did ya get it?

RE: G5 A.S.D

Hey Jason, the price was $54.00 from Tent City Outfitters in Toronto. Its made by G5 OutDoors. Check out the G5 site. It is available at Cabelas. In the Cabels site use the search arrow squaring to find it. It is something to use if are building your own arrows, replacing inserts, squaring inserts after installation for broadheads or nocks. I know it will make a very small difference but it makes me happy and after all isn't that what its all about? LOL

Of course it's important. I use a Neco to check bullet run-out when reloading rifle cartridges.

Thanks DnK, for the info on the G5, I will definitely get one.

When you get one it will be apparent how poor of a job everyone does when cutting your shafts or how hard it is. I cannot imagine what kind of punishment we give to the ends of the shafts and they still hold up. On the other hand maybe they will last longer. The real difference may come in longer range targets tho.
I always square my shell mouths before reloading but have not gotten into straightening out the run-out of the necks. So many neat things to do and so little time and money.[:o]

3 importantthings I have learned about X-Bows already and still have'nt purchased one.:)
1. Mark the stringso it is centered
2. Check arrow shafts forsquareness(not slightly bent)
3. Use the G5 A.S.D forbroadheads

OH,keep your fingers below the arrow rail!:D:D:DOuch!!!

Rebel, you still don't know which one yet? Can't blame you at all. I would be torn between a Horton, Ten Point or Excalibur. In the end I guess for me it would be either a Horton or an Ecal. Ten Point would be out because of the prices. I choose an Excal because I am a mechainc and I wanted something simple. On the other had the Horton is a lower priced product that works well. I hunt with a few guys that have Hortons and have no problems at all. I guess its more about personal principle in the end for me. I think the Horton is a perfect xbow to start with that should last you a lifetime based on price and performance, assuming you are not an arrow junkie like our Squirrel. That kid would be great to have around the house! He'd get me out a lot more often. I thought I was a bit of an arrow junkie. At work I shoot anywhere from 30 to 50 or more shots from my compound every day. If I had a boy like Squirrel I would either have to get another target butt or shoot less! He's a hoot! You should ask him how many shots he has taken from hi Horton so far. Might give you an idea how long a Horton should last. He's got some endurance test going for sure.

i've probbaly shot close to 500 rounds. no joke. all i have is some wear on the string where the wrap rubs on the rail. i got some lube now tho:D

Cool Reb! I am glad you are narrowing your choices down. You seemed to do alot of research on this and I and Dnk are looking forward to your anouncement. I like the look of the recurve on the Excals and if I could own two the excal would probally be the second one, Sorry Squirrel, my tunnel has windows. The research should pay off for ya in the end. I just bought a new H&R 204 and it is the first time I really researched a gun before purchase. Most of the time I just go out to the store and buy whats on hand. But the new gun came in the other day and now I am just waiting on the scope and cleaning stuff so I can go out and start shooting.
