crossbows

How far will a crossbow shot? Have a friend that said he seen somebody kill a deer at 150 yards.
Don't believe it.
I know a arrow will go a long way. But to kill a deer..

I would call BS on that one. The effective range on a crossbow is no better than the range on a compound bow. Sure you can make 150 yard shots, but the chances of hitting something where you wanted are slim to none.

This was the first year PA allowed the use of crossbows with a muzzleloader stamp. I decided to give my paps' a try. I was amazed with the accuracy and range of it. It was shot on at 20 yards but even out at 35 yards the bolt only dropped about an inch. I shot as far as 55 yards with amazing accuracy. As said before it is possible to hit a target that far away but not likely.

That shot would have been something to see.

I'm sure the sight doesn't adjust to that far adistance so the use of"Kentucky windage"would have to be done. I don'tthink he would be even able to see the deer in his sight picture because of how far the crossbow would have to be held over to get that arrow/bolt out there. You would need some MAD skills to make that shot IMO.

I call BS.

I have a 150# model and a 180# , both suffer bolt drop up to 10" between 20-40 yards with a 20" bolt/100 grain head . They get 215 and 235 FPS respectively .

A 150 yard shot is total BS , the bolt , even if it went that far at all , wouldn't have the KE to get out of it's own way . The furthest I'd shoot with one would be 40 yards with a perfectly zeroed scope , and even then I'd wish that I had let the target get closer .

150 is rifle range not x-bow range. My friend and I tryed his horton at 70 yards and it was hard to hit the target even with his perfectly zerod scope.

i shoot a horton Legend SL. shoots great at 50 yrds, i can group them together but would never shoot a deer that far away. my max shot would be around 35 to 40 yrds. just feel mor comfotable at that range and the deer will have less time to "jump the shot" IMO. if someone shoots at 50 yrds thats there call and maybe they are ok with it. as for a 150 yrd shot how about calling it what it is BULL **** !!!! no way on earth.

44 yards is my limit on game. I practice to 55 yards. H's pulling your chain.
