Can you reuse peanut oil for deep frying?
The jugs I have say "Not for Reuse," but I can't see spending almost $10 a jug for only getting to use it one time. I have reused mine several times, but it is turning dark. My wife wants me to put new oil in EVERY time I deep fry, but that would make frying chicken at home more expensive than getting it at KFC. What is the real deal on this?
Thanks! |
RE: Can you reuse peanut oil for deep frying?
:) You can reuse it several times......once it needs changing, you will tell by the smell. I used my last for 4 different turkeys before it was looking kinda bad and smelling really rancid[:'(]....sort of smells like a grill in a fast food resturant that needs cleaning... Hope this helps!;)

Yes, it does help. Thanks. On my way to BassPro to get some as soon as my 2 year old wakes up.

You're lucky you can find it in the jugs. I can only find it in 24 oz bottles. They have ethnic food aisles in the grocery store, they need to add a southern section. Had to have my mom send me ham bouillon cubes.

RE: Can you reuse peanut oil for deep frying?
I believe the "Not for ReUse" means the container it comes in shouldn't be reused for other things. Probably cause some folks are extremely alergic to even very small amounts of peanut products. Wouldn't worry about it, but don't put it back when it's hot. If you get a siphon and filter, should work great for multiple uses until it starts to turn as the others have indicated. Watch your cooking temp too, as running at too high a temp. will make it break down faster.

RE: Can you reuse peanut oil for deep frying?
Roger that. Hey, I just got back from BassPro. They don't sell peanut oil there anymore because the FDA labelled it a "gourmet" food item, the price has skyrocketed, and BassPro is boycotting. The lady told me cottonseed is pretty much exactly the same and I got two jugs. We'll see...

RE: Can you reuse peanut oil for deep frying?
Let me know how that works for you. It would sure be nice to find something cheaper that works just as well. :)

RE: Can you reuse peanut oil for deep frying?
Annie,
It was the same price ($6.99 a gallon) that I paid for the peanut oil two years ago, but I imagine peanut oil is much more expensive now. I will let you know how it is, maybe tomorrow night. I plan to fry the turkey I got this spring if it doesn't rain much tomorrow... |
RE: Can you reuse peanut oil for deep frying?
I paid almost $4 per 24 oz. I had gone to 3 stores trying to find it. Behold the peanut[&:] Enjoy your turkey ! I loooooove deep fried turkey.

RE: Can you reuse peanut oil for deep frying?
Cottonseed oil gives it a better flavor IMO. It is also about $3 cheaper at the stores here.

RE: Can you reuse peanut oil for deep frying?
I sliced the turkey breast into rather thin strips tonight and ran lots of water on it to drain out the blood. I am marinating them in robust Italian dressing overnight. We did this last year and coated them in flour and they came out tasting really good. We'll do the same tomorrow, and I will let you know how it goes after frying them in cottonsead oil this time instead of peanut oil.

I use mine over and over till I have cooked 4 birds.then strain and use to cook fish.
if you cook a big batch of fried patatoes,it will clean the oil a little. |
RE: Can you reuse peanut oil for deep frying?
I just bought two 35# boxes of peanut oil today from Sam's club. It cost $30.97 for each box. That works out to $7/ gallon. Not too bad on price. But you can buy 35# of clear frying oil for $17.14, but it does not last as long as peanut oil.

RE: Can you reuse peanut oil for deep frying?
Am I missing something here? I use peanut oil for my oriental cooking in a wok. I only started deep frying in one of those turkey fryer's 2 years ago, but I use corn oil, as it is better than veg. oil as far as cholesterol goes. Also peanut oil adds flavor to the food if that's what your looking for. I can reuse the oil 4-6 times then replace it since it is cheaper than peanut oil. What treeclimber said is correct about making a batch of french fries in the oil to purify it. Also after you use the oil once or twice it browns your tater's more easily than if it were new. Sure would like to know what I'm missing by not using peanut oil. Maybe you guys are cooking at higher temps than me. I'm usually at 350 for small birds and 325 for larger ones. Thank you.

Wal-Mart Super Centers carry the large containers of peanut oil...I think they were around $20 the last time I got one.

RE: Can you reuse peanut oil for deep frying?
Jersey ; the peanut oil burns or get Brunt I should say less at a higher temp.you can cook longer at a higher temp. with it than other oils without it burning.
I haven't noticed any flavor other than normal.it does a fried turkey real well. |

RE: Can you reuse peanut oil for deep frying?
First of all, I know Costco sells it in large jugs. You'll have to call them for a price.
I have a deep fryer that does not leave my counter top and it is filled with peanut oil. It does seem to hold up better than the vegetable oils and NO...you do not have to change it out every time. I frequently strain the oil after its cool and reuse. I pitch mine out when it has become too dark, which also means (more than likely)it's begining to leave an undesirable (burnt) flavoring. It also breaks down, doesn't burn as hot as it should and therefore, leaving the food too greasy. Frying coated fish ruins the oil the fastest. |

RE: Can you reuse peanut oil for deep frying?
You can reuse it several times......once it needs changing, you will tell by the smell. Time to change the oil...and your chef clothing ![]() |
RE: Can you reuse peanut oil for deep frying?
I reuse my oil. I strain it after it cools then keep it in the refrigerater.
