That is funny, on my local radio station today they were having "redneck wars" and one of the questions was "what is the tenderest part of a muskrat"

Your going to have to tell me how the tenderloins are because that was the answer of course

I usually get my rats from road kill in the summer so they are pre cooked. Just kidding what ever floats your boat. In fact if siomeone was to cook them I would try it.

I believe they're like your nutria. Although I've never eaten nutria.

RustyOlRanger4x4 04-25-2004 08:50 AM

RE: Having Muskrat for dinner on Thursay

nutria look like a beaver with no tail, so basiclly they`re a big rat?

it does look like a beaver or a nutria its not really something id look at and say "i wonder what it taste like? Lets cook it."

Muskrat, nutria, groundhog, possum, racoon, beaver(the kind that lives on the water)...
I have been a professional chef for over 27 years and can make almost anything taste good, but these animals are just outside what I consider a good starting point for a meal.
If I got really desperate, I may try the groundhog, only because they have a decent diet being vegetarians. Their meat most probably won't taste like marsh mud.
I don't know how you could eat that meat. But when I watch "Fear Factor", I couldn't eat a lot of what those folks put into their mouth either. To me, muskrat would fall into this catagory.[:'(]

Groundhog aint bad if you trim alot of the fat off of it. Same with coon.

[:o] Ohhh, I do not even want to imagine it[:'(]. I think I would rather eat a dozen hamsters, but skinning those little things would drive me nuts:D
