Elk Help

A guy just gave me some Elk meat from one of his Canadian hunts. I got some steaks and some ground. I am a Georgia boy that has no idea about Elk. Do you cook it like Deer? or do I need to do something different? Thanks for any help.

Thanks a lot. I assumed that you would treat it just like deer, but the guy that gave it to me told me that I should slow cook it. He also said that it was good when battered and deep fried. Sounds awful to me, but to each his own. Anyway, thanks for the help.

When you batter and deep fry it, It seals in the juices and cooks it quickly so it doesn't dry out which would make it tough. If he told you to cook it long and slow maybe he didn't give you to good of a cut. Depending how much he gave you, try it any way you prefer. If it doesn't come out to your liking you can always cut up what you cooked ,return it to the pot, add vegetables and make stew. Good Luck

I cook mikne just like I would beef. Even used it in place of beef in everything from enchiladas to stroganoff.
