what size and kind
 

Hey all, I am going to start doing my own hotdogs, brats, ring bologna, summer sausage, snack sticks etc etc. I was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction as to what is a good grinder and what size hp I should get, also a stuffer and mixer. Now, I have been doing this for a few years with my hunting buddies and the guys equipment that we use has quit hunting due to health reasons and is getting out of the whole works. He said we could buy his stuff for little to nothing but heres the deal, when we started doing this a few years ago we didn't realize that we would get into doing as much as far as quantity goes so we have been using the manual hand grinder and stuffer etc etc. I have decided to buy his walk in smoker and walk in cooler and now want to get some bigger equipment for doing this, we have done over a thousand pounds of beef and venison already this year and haven't even gotten to doing all my hunting groups venison and it's a lot. If anyone could help me out with what brand and size equipment would be good for what I will be doing I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks all..

we need more of a dollar amount you want to spend fer said equipment. the sky is the limit. if yer really doing a thousand pounds at a time, i would suggest a commercial grinder/mixer set up.

we use a lil $100 grinder from bass pro shop..has all the attachments and made outta metal mostly. i think its a 1 hp..ya dont need many ponies to grind meat..has plastic attachments for sausage n stuff. just added a scale a couple years ago, used to eyeball it for years..it just depends how deep ya wanna go in yer wallet.

Dont get caught up with HP a 1/3 hp grinder with a good transmission can out perfprm a 1hp with lousy cheap gearing. I would reccomend the Torey brand grinder we have sold these for about 10 years now and have had great response from our customers. The pan holds about 40lb of meat at a time and the grind rate is good with the large throat. Meat pieces can be around hand size and that saves time when grinding a bunch of wild game. 800 762 6689 Mike. Another thought would be to wait for a grocery store sale or an auction with food equipment and buy a full size commercial grinder 3hp or less and then just get a phase converter to run it on 220 single phase power. We have alot of those out to our larger groups of hunters who process year around.

ya, not sure that I want to go that far into this. 1500 is kinda steep for me to only using for recreational use but I did find one for around 500. It was 899.99 on sale for 539.99 so I snatched it up. Got another guy going in on the cost of the grinder and stuffer so that helps. I do like the looks of some of the real expensive ones but I don't know that I could justify it with the other half or myself for that matter.. LOL. Thanks for all the help guys.
