is there something you can do to jerky to soften it up?

so i just got my deer back from the processor and i had one hind quarter made into jerky. Its really tasty but the problem is, its just too durn hard, i eat a couple pieces and my teeth are sore for days. Is there some trick you can use on jerky to soften it up? Ive bought premium jerky before at the store and it was kind of soft, more like a piece of meat than jerky...is there some way to turn jerky into that, or is it all in the process and nothing to be done about it now?

well after its been made i dont think theres any thing you can do but i do no if you make the jerky thicker then it should be softer, the thinner it is the faster and harder it dries in my opinion.

You could try soaking it before you eat it, but that seems like it would defeat the purpose.

Maybe nuke a few pieces for a few seconds with a damp paper towel over it.

Make it out of ground meat, not slices.
