Meat storage question
Ok so Ive put away from meat from the last deer I shot.....I cut this one up myself (normally send them to the processor), but having three kids and limited time....I had to put most of it up in larger portions than I wanted and it was already 7 days dead (1/4ed and on ice and in fridge) so I needed to get it up asap. So my question is, once I get to the store to get what I need to store it, can I thaw it, put it in the portions I want, and then put it back in the freezer and it be fine....or is one freeze and one thaw all youd want to do before you eat it?

you can thaw and refreeze, just thaw in the fridge , better yet only partialy thaw then cut, re-wrap and freeze. The idea is to keep the meat as cold as possible so any bacteria won't have a chance to multiply.

Either listen to Big Guy or leave it as is till you need it, then partialy thaw cut off your piece and package and re-freeze whats left of the piece you partially thawed.

Thanks guys. Ill give it a try. Im generally reluctant to thaw meat then refreeze it, but I may give the partial thaw a try, then use a saw or serrated blade to cut it into smaller portions and rewrap.
