Shotguns And Squirrel Meat

Planning on buying a shotgun for early squirrel
season to take my son hunting and want to know
if any one has any techniques on how to get all
the pellets out of a squirrel before eating them.
Just dont like the thought of my son or wife eating
a squirrel leg and biting into lead pellets.Any help
you can give is appreciated! Mike

My advice to you is use a 22 rifle instead. If your son is just gettting started not much you can do. My son is 5 and he shoot squirrels with a 410 but ina couple of year he will graduate up to a 22.

Use a little bigger shot #4 it should go through the squirrel and not stay in the body, and if it doesn't it can be easily seen and picked out with a knife.

I myself use a 410 for squirrels like to use no-6 shot and i like to aim for the head. And i also use a 410 for rabbit hunting then i use 7 and a half shot for got to mention 3'' shell for both .

For shotguns, Big Guy is right...#4 is better than #6 or smaller. There are less pellets to hit the animal, and easier to pick out.

I usually pressure cook the meat, so when I pick it from the bone the pellets are easily removed.
