making maple syrup

Has one made maple syrup? I am thinking of trying it next winter. Anyone have any advice or suggestions?

Yea, my advice would be to just buy it. takes 40-45 gallons of sap to make one gallon of syrup. sap runs in the late winter or early spring, depends on where you are located. there is a lot of equipment involved and a whole lot of labor. unless you plan on going into the business it really is not worth the time of effort.

My dad makes about 50 gals a year as a hobby....thats what it starts as anyway! When he is all done he is so sick of it. When I was a kid we would boil sap on the cook stove but that took forever and was a mess. It can be done as a hobby but its a lot of work.
