Boy, some of those bring back memories. We used to make a lot of Dutch oven stuff when I went on Girl Scout camping trips. Some of the meals were pretty good.

Pretty much any recipe designed for crockpots will work in a dutch oven, and you can find whole cookbooks written for crockery cooking.

I pretty much like to eat bake beeans before I give my spouse a dutch oven. I've also found a big bowl of split pea works just as well.:D

All seriousness aside, when I go camping the dutch oven is the way to go.

I used to have a book that gave you the amount (or number) of briquets to use top and bottom to give the desired temp to cook at. We've baked bread in them but the recipes each had their own coal or ember amounts. Heck I guess I'll just have to experiment.

If you don't want build a fire inside the house, just put the dutch oven in the oven.

I've got other caserole (Le Crueset) dishes for that. I was thinking for up at the cabin,go fishing and come back to a ready made side dish for the walleye!

Another vote for that site, I get a ton of my recipes from there.

I was thinking it was about 25 degrees per briquet.
