You could do a search on Youtube.com.You will find a few pretty graphic videos to illustrate the above mentioned process. It really isn't that bad though.

After 64 years of hunting and living off the results, I can say for my own tastes, the sooner you get the hide off and the guts out, the better the meat will be. If most people handled beef like they do venison, they would not eat beef, either.

100% agreed. I butcher as a sideline and have received some aweful carcasses. Everything from guts left in, dirty from riding aroundbut the worst quartered out moose with a chainsaw, skinned then dragged behind an atv. The meat was gross and resulted in lost of waste. Fellas owe it to themselves and the animals to learn how to deal with it after the shot, the rewards are worth the effort.

Like mentioned more then one way to skin a cat or in this case FD or butcher a deer. I suggest asking to be in on the process with your buddy or other hunters so you can watch, ask question and help. Nothing better then hands on.

I like to get the hide off ASAP. I then put it in agame bag to keep the crud off it until I get home. I hang it in the garage for1-3 days - depends on temp, the warmer it is the quicker I get the knives out.I've been taught that the faster you cool the meat and the cleaner you keep it, the better theresults will bewhen it hits your plate.

Good luck. Experience is the best teacher. After the shot, taking proper care of the meat is the most important thing a hunter does.
