Awesome post! I camp in the bush and cook w/all cast iron, 2 12", 2 6" frying pans and a dutch oven is all you need. Its nice to have a few extra recipe's every year. Whats this about charcoal?????..... I use plain old hot coals from the campfire. They are free!

I started to ask the same question. I've never used charcoal and dutch ovens. Seems like it would take the fun out of it.;)
Oh, one other thing. When you are finished and are cleaning up your camp. Take your coals with you. Its getting hard to find a place where whats left from a camp fire isnt scattered everywhere.

I love to cook in my cast iron dutch ovens. I have several sizes from 1qt to 8qt right now and plan on getting a 20qt sometime soon, the big one will be for turkeys, bread, pizza, or whatever big stuff I want. One of my favorites is to cook up some chili or stew in one of the larger ones and bake some cornbread in one of the smaller ones for a tasty meal.I haven't tried many deserts but the cobler mentioned earlier sounds easy and would be good with some home made ice cream. I may have to try that out.
