DEER HEART? what do I do with it?
I shot my deer this morning and while gutting it, I remembered that some people eat the hearts, so I cut it out. Well............now what do I do with it? What do most people do with the hearts? any recipes or suggestions?????????

A guy I used to hunt with would take all the hearts he could get.
He would boil them than pickle them simular to pickled eggs. Not for me but he loved them. Good Luck |

clean it out, cut top off , then
slice it into about 3/8" thick. season with garlic powder , lowyers seasoning, black pepper. roll in flour and pan fry till golden brown. goes great for breafast with grits and eggs. |

I just slice it and fry it. Some folks sort of hollow it out and fill it with stuffing and bake it. Others just grind it in with their grinding meat.

Coyote is right is does make great catfish bait, but I like to slice it up and fry it. It depends on our mood when we are cleaning them if it is not tore up we will normally save it to eat, though usually I shoot my deer in the heart or lungs so it is normally just mush.

Par boil or pressure cook. Then slice into slivers and put in mushroom rravey or make like beef strogunoff (SPELLING ) and serve over noodles.

Well the Native Americans use to eat it raw. They felt that you would gain the animals strength from doing this or so I was told. :eek:

tree climber hit the nail on the head. my buddy marinates his in a vinegar based brine then slices it and fries it.its good either way.just like any organ on a deer make sure you inspect it good before cooking it

I had it once. It was dipped in bread crumbs and pan fried. I liked it.

Trim it well, rub with Lawery's. garlic powder, and pepper, grill until pink........YUM!

Cut it into large cubes. Brown it in a skillet and let the juices cook down until the bottom of the skillet is coated with it. Add enough water to cover the meat, then scrape the coating off the bottom of the skillet. Add one chopped up onion and seasoning.It will make a rich brown gravy that you serve over rice: "debris de coeur de chevruil."

make sure all the blood is out first..i slice or dice it and pan fry it in butter,adding onion and mushrooms..:D
