Coots?

I came across www.recipesforwildgame.com and they have some interesting recipes in there. I found some for Coot, so there is someone out there that is at least crazy enough to try it. I noticed that for Coot, the recipes have instructions of soaking the birds in salt water over night to get the wild taste out of them. Anyone ever eaten them? I may just have to shoot a couple and see what they taste like. I can do most anything once!

Thanks.

RE: Coots?

Well, as I'm out duck hunting at least twice a week, I've shot a couple, mostly when nothing else was happening. To tell you the truth I didn't think they tasted that bad. Here's how I cook them. Fillet them, then cut them into bite sized chunks. Brown them in a frying pan. Pour in mushroom soup mix and whatever else you like(garlic powder, seasoning salt, pepper, etc) and wait till soup mix is boiling. Serve over toast and you should be good. If you need claficacation on anything, just PM me.

for people that like gizzards , the coot has the largest in any bird.a coots gizzard is bigger than any turkey.
take a bunch and pan fry them and chow down.;):D

I like to run gizzards through the pressure cooker for at least 45 minutes first , then bread and fry as usual . They come out a lot less chewy that way .
