Tree stand or Ground blind?

After hunting from a treestand for many years I've decided to try hunting from a ground blind. Does any one else use ground blinds with any success. Also do any of you hunt creek crossings, or clear cuts?

I have harvested a few does from a ground blind. I don't think the lack of horns is due to the blind, but rather to the screwed up herd ratio down here. I have used the blind on the edges of some cutover (w/ limited success) and have a few creek crossings that always produce at least a sighting or two.

It's a 50/50 split for me. Last year I was after a 130" buck that required me to make a natural ground blind because of lack of trees near his bedding area. I think it's pretty foolish to limit yourself to tree stands.

For me the lay of the land really dictates it. If there are just no decent trees around, a ground blind is the only way to go. I like to be on slightly elevated ground though. Never hunted from a store-bought blind. I usually just stack up brush and logs found in the area. They're ultra easy to get into since you don't have to carry a darn thing other than your weapon (ie climbing stand, harness, etc) but I usually bring along some sort of portable chair for comfort.

I was just reading an article about elk hunting. This outfitter makes several ground blinds (in a lincoln log fashion) from 100 yards to half a mile apart. What they do is, setup a hunter in one of the blinds than have another hunter stalk their way around the property, moving from blind to blind. Many times the guy stalking will push elk right past the first guy sitting in the blind.

I hunt from the ground quite a bit. Sometimes i cant find a tree. I'm hunting a dry creek bed that has a big trail running across it. just hunker down behind a brush pile and wait.

Browning I use both, you really need to factor in the wind a lot more when hunting from the ground and also make sure your outline is broken up or totally concealed as much as possible when on the ground. To me hunting from the ground is far more exciting than hunting from a stand, being on eye level with a deer is something hard to forget, especially a big buck. When hunting on the ground you really have to watch the deers eyes closely, keeping your eyes at slits is crucial, they can see you blink, never move when they have thier head up, wait until their head is behind a tree or down feeding to move.

Out west I did a lot of stalking and glassing while rifle hunting. This is my first year bow hunting and I am not as confident on my ability to approach close enough to get within a distance I am comfortable taking the shot.

Do those of you that ground hunt do much glassing, or is there to much motion to get that close of an approach?

I have actually shot more deer from a ground blind than a tree stand. They both have thier advantages. I wouldn't limit it to just one or the other. Alot depends on cover and trees in area as others have said. I have never used a blind out of the store always just used something in the area.
