NEED HELP PICKING OUT NEW BOW!!!
I'm just getting into bow hunting for whitetails. I was wondering what you guys would suggest for a first bow. I have been told by retailers to go with hoyt, matthews, or parker. Any suggestions would be great!! Thanks for the help

RE: NEED HELP PICKING OUT NEW BOW!!!
I suggest a High Country. They are great bows, with a great warrenty. I shoot a Brute Force, which is a spectactular bow. It's compact, and quick. The High Country bow's are a lot like Mathew's without the huge price tag. High Country's aren't cheap, but they are well worth the money. I'm a High Country man for life. Just my opinion.

I like PSE. I have a thunderbolt With the lightening cam. I have about 400 dollars in it with stabilizer, rest, sights. I have had 3 PSE bows and no problems.

RE: NEED HELP PICKING OUT NEW BOW!!!
Well, I'll beat some of the others to the punch with my advice, lol. The popular advice around here is usually the best:
1. If this is your first bow, go with something that provides accuracy and shootability over speed. Those speed bows are hard to reign in, especially for a beginner. 2. Determine what bows are in your budget. 3. Shoot as many of them as possible before making a decision. 4. After the purchase and tuning process, PRACTICE,PRACTICE,PRACTICE. 5. When you think you are ready....GO PRACTICE A LITTLE MORE. That being said, I shoot a Buckmaster Hypertech. Good little bow, not very heavy and didn't put to much of a dent in the wallet. Good Luck with your decision, purchase, and exploration of the wonderful world of bowhunting. RE: NEED HELP PICKING OUT NEW BOW!!!
Good luck. It is like picking new shoes - way too many. I did about 1 year of research and reading before buying my second bow. I don't know about you but I have a limited budget. My wife would disagree with the amount of hunting stuff I have invested in however.
I wanted a bow that would last me the rest of my life so it had to have a good warranty but had to be prices right so that I could get the accessories I wanted. I settled on a Champion and I love it. Like I said before, good luck. |
RE: NEED HELP PICKING OUT NEW BOW!!!
If you are wanting bang for the buck, it's hard to beat a Jennings Buckmaster Bow.
Truth of the matter is though, that most reputable manufacturers: Hoyt, Matthews, Jennings, High Country, PSE, etc. ALL make a good and reliable product. The only real difference are the bells and whistles and personal preference: (aka: look, feel, etc.) Jennings puts a lot of bells and whistles on their product for a good price. I've never regretted buying mine. |

If your looking for a very afordable bow that comes fully ready to hunt I would suggest the Reflex Bighorn It is a great bow for a begginer. I had mine for about 3 yrs with no trouble at all. Just purchased a new matthews and was just as happy with my Reflex. Just a suggestion.

Tebbe - Bull 1870 is right what may be right for one person may not be comfortable for you. I have had a xi magnum bow with easton 2016 arrows and I thought that was a sweet bow . Just the other day I picked up a Hoyt Magnatec xt2000 and Beman ICS hunter 400 carbon arrows and these arrows in themselves are real nice. It all what you feel you will be happy with.

RE: NEED HELP PICKING OUT NEW BOW!!!
Welcome to the board!:)
When a new bowhunter comes into the shop looking at bows I try to point them to the longer a-t-a bow with a high brace hight and plenty of let off. These features make a bow fun to shoot and more forgiving on a bad shot. My advice wold be to go to your local pro shops and get fitted for, draw lenght, draw weight, fingers or mechanical, and so on. You may save a buck or two from a mail order but if you are just starting out you need some help with your set-up. As for which brand, Most major manufacters have good mid range starter bows and I would shoot as many as I could. You will probally get as many recomendations as there are brands out there and I know everyone thinks THERE bow is the ONLY bow. It is, but only for them. I love my High Country Ultra Pro but someone else may have tryed one and wrote it off as pure junk. For them it was. Get a bow YOU like, not what I shoot or this buddy of that pal shoots. Go luck and welcome to the adiction SF |

RE: NEED HELP PICKING OUT NEW BOW!!!
I'm also a first time bowhunter and just bought a Jennings Buckmaster G2. Its half the price of the big name bows and extremely well made. I've had it for two days and I'm shooting 3 inch groups at 20 yards. My buddy recommended it and he has shot half a dozen P & Y bucks as well as several record class moose and bear. Its hard to argue with success! With the money you save you can buy all the other gear you need and still come out ahead. |
RE: NEED HELP PICKING OUT NEW BOW!!!
TEBBE,
I AGREE WITH SOME OF THE OTHERS. YOU HAVE TO FIND ONE THAT FITS YOU AND YOUR NEEDS. AS FOR ME, BOWTECH ITS THE VERY BEST.IVE SHOT A LOT OF OTHERS MATHEWS, PSE, MARTIAN JUST TO NAME A FEW. THEY DONT STAND UP TO THE BOWTECH. I OWN TWO, THE MIGHTY MITE AND THE PRO 38. I AM SURE THEY HAVE ONE IN THERE LINE THAT WILL FIT YOU.THE STALKER IS A GOOD STARTER BOW, AND ITS NOT TO EXPENSIVE.MY FRIEND JUST BOUGHT ONE AND HE GOT IT SET UP WITH EVERYTHING YOU WOULD NEED FOR ABOUT $350.IF YOU WANT THE BEST HUNTING BOW IMO SPEND THE EXTRA CASH AND GET THE MIGHTY MITE, BUT ITS YOUR DECISION. GIVE THIS COMPANY A TRY BEFORE YOU BUY. THERE STAFF IS THE BEST. I HAVE NOTHING BUT GOOD WORDS ABOUT THE DEALER THAT I USE. GOOD LUCK HUNTING. tracey moore |
RE: NEED HELP PICKING OUT NEW BOW!!!
I didn't like the Bowtech bows at all. I would give the Matthews and Hoyt bows a try, they are the best on the market. I agree though that if you just want a bow that will kill deer nearly all the major manufacturers make a fairly decent product that will accomplish your goal. Assuming you do your part that is...
