RE: WOUNDED DEER

My brothers and I all agreed last couple yrs to only shoot 6pts or better on our fathers land. Nearing the end of deer season I had yet to fill my tag. I had a deer come out onto a powerline on an evening watch. I saw in my binoculars it was only a spike buck, so I had all intentions of letting him go. As he got out more into the open I noticed he had a severe limp to one hind leg, he was struggling to walk. With coyotes in the area, and winter alreadly starting I knew he'd never make it. I took him. He ended up having a broken back leg, that was really swollen, and appeared to be in the healing process of a offset leg bone. He'd really struggled in snow up to 3-ft we so often get in NY. My brothers understood, and more then agreed it was the right call. We figured he'd most likely been hit by a car, but who knows.
