antler growth

Friday evening while out turkey hunting I had a group of 6 bucks come by. 5 of them just had bumps where their antlers will be growing. The other one had 6-8" of growth. I thought the bumps was something that would indicate a late drop as I have heard that antler growth basically starts as soon as last years antlers are shed. Any insight on this?

kwr,
The five bucks that have bumps on their heads are normal for this time of year. The one with 6-8 inches of antler must have dropped his early last year.

I've caught a few bucks on cam this spring and none of them have any headgear growing yet.
This article may shed some light on antler growth.

Last year I saw quite a few with 4-6 inches this time of year but this year I havent seen much for antler growth. I would say that the bumps are pretty normal and the bigger one was a early drop. I would say that because the others were all the same.
