The Switch: Aluminum to Carbon? Need Help . . .
 

Okay, for years I've been shooting XX75 and XX78, 2314's. They have served me well over the long haul, but with all the new technology I just can't pass up the carbons any longer. I'm at a point right now where I don't have a lot of unused aluminum arrows laying around and I'm gonna have to order some more right away, so it's a good time to make the switch!

The only problem is, I don't know much about carbon arrows. Here's my set-up, perhaps someone can help with some specifics:

Jennings Buckmaster Bow
70-pounds, at the moment
28-inch draw length
2-inch overdraw (I can get rid of this if necessary)
Normal arrow length: 27-inches
125-grain broadheads (I like heavy broadheads)
Caliper release

Also, I live 5 minutes from a Bass Pro Shop, but I don't have to get my arrows there...just a thought! I'll gladly order them from anywhere. Willing to pay up to about $75/dozen...

Any advice would be appreciated!

i just did the switch from those same arrows to bemans 400 hunter it took some time and adjusting with my pins and rest. However the end product is worth it i am grouping much tighter, the first sight in with my broadheads had my second arrow cut to fletchings off my first shot @ 20 yds. I am pulling a 70# bow also, but do have a 30 inch arrow, didnt like the overdraw due to the fact it took away some of the forgiveness, and also found that the 100 grain heads patterned with my bow better than the 125's. Goodluck, I would forget basspro and try to find a local proshop, i find chainstores usually dont have that knowledgable of staffs where the local guys have it down and know it for sure, and depend on return customers.

i have a dozen bran new Beeman Ics hunter 400's you can have for a great price!!! I just bought them 31" and they do not have the stifness I neew for for my bow setup. Email me if you want them and I will give you deal you can not refuse.. Greg

Go to the heaviest carbon that will spine correctly for your setup. You've been using plenty heavy enough aluminum so I assume you are very adequate with your setup. Don't get caught into the light for speed phenom.

I need more info on the bow. What year, and what cam. If you have a chrono, I can use that data too.
At the moment, I would suggest the Beeman 340 over the 400, or a carbon express 300.

The Buckmaster Bow is the 1997 model. It's a bit older. It's a single cam version, of course and my chrono speed is about 260fps. I'll have to get you more information on exactly what Cam it is. I'm at work right now so don't have my bow information with me!

You will probably want to use the Carbon express 300s or The Beman 400s

I'm not sure on which brand you should bye but my setup is much like yours minus the overdraw. I shoot a Reflex at 70# with a 28-in draw and a 100-garin broadhead. The arrows I shoot are CX Terminators I was shooting the 4560 but they were to weak in spine so I went to the 6075, much better.Just to give you an example when I shoot from 20 & 30 (not that I'm a great bow hunter) but my grouping is so tight I tend to tare up arrows I don't aim at the same spot anymore.Just a comment from someone who may not give you the best advise but hope this helps.

I switched from 2213's to ICS 400'rds and went from 217 fps to 245 fps, tighter groups, no more bent arrows. I think you'll like th switch.
