The truth about xbow's

The true sport of Archery (recurve or compound).............and the ability, form, and requirements, to achieve exceptional levels of skill is what sets this discipline apart from crossbow shooting.

Bone to Bone alignment, power triangles, the floating of a sight under holding weight, stance, draw length dynamics, back tension, the release explosion, target panic and all its maladies, the feel of the grip and a proper hand position. The ability to relax ALL muscles but the correct back muscles to hold 20 or so lbs of weight and hold as rock steady as possible.......................................... ..............The proper draw, that allows everything to start in its correct position, as tension is transferred through the abs and triceps into the deep rb muscles, the challenge of shooting up hill and down hill with proper form and not letting the angles reek havoc on your game

These are all the intricate parts of what makes ARCHERY such a great and challenging sport - bowhunting or target..................and the TRUE core of what separates "Shooting Bows" from shooting a crossbow.................

In honesty a crossbow has NOTHING in common with a compound...that goes further than its strings, wheels and an arrow............................................. .........

And if you see that as enough to make them the same...............................then you are missing what the sport and discipline ARCHERY is about......................

Period:)

How do you guys feel about the "draw-loc"? For those of you who are not familar with it, it is a device that locks your compound bow in full draw position until you are ready to shoot. Do u think that should fall into the same category as a crossbow?

I've seen pics of it and would never even consider it. I think the regs in Texas allow locks but my opinion is they shouldn't. The ones I've seen look like they would be more trouble and cumbersome than they're worth. JMHOT

First let me say I AGREE WITH EVERYTHING YOU JUST SAID.

The only problem is, not you nor anyone else can RE-DEFINE what archery is, it's already been done. I wish I could, because I would use your exact words as the "new definition" then there would be no arguments about crossbows. Everyone thinks I'm pro-crossbow, I'm really not, I don't care either way. I don't use one, have never shot one and I come from a state that does not allow them but to the handicapped. I just don't see the evil that most do.

What I do see is the definition of what archery is, and that is according to the Websters Dictionary: "The pratice or art of shooting with a bow and arrow" and unfortunately a crossbow fits into the definition of what a bow is. I even looked at an online encyclopedia for it's definition,[link]http://www.encyclopedia.com[/link] I looked up crossbow and it said: "See bow and arrow"

Now without getting mad can you at least see what I'm talking about?

That is the truth about crossbows.......like them or not they are tied to our sport and have been for centuries.

I submit using a compound excludes a person from The true sport of Archery .............and the ability, form, and requirements, to achieve exceptional levels of skill is what sets this discipline apart from recurve/longbow shooting.

Bone to Bone alignment, power triangles, the floating of a sight under holding weight, stance, draw length dynamics, the release explosion, target panic and all its maladies, the feel of the string in your fingers, and a proper hand position, hand/eye coordination, the ability to draw full weight of bow, the purity of the stick and string, The proper draw, that allows everything to start in its correct position, as tension is transferred through the abs and triceps into the deep rb muscles, the challenge of shooting up hill and down hill with proper form and not letting the angles reek havoc on your game - all that is lost with the mechanics of wheels/cams, letoff and triggered releases.

These are all the intricate parts of what makes ARCHERY such a great and challenging sport - bowhunting or target..................and the TRUE core of what separates "Shooting Bows" from shooting a compound.................

In honesty a compound has NOTHING in common with a recurve/longbow from the way its drawn, to the way its held, to the dynamics of the way it casts an arrow and where the energy to do so is generated. Nothing is the same

And if you don't see that as enough to groups compounds and crossbows as virtually the same kind of weapon in how they are vastly different from the recurve/longbow..............................then you are missing what the sport and discipline ARCHERY is about......................
