This is in the deer hunting.
All the bickering about what should be allowed and not allowed is playing into the Anti hunters hands.

If they'd quit trying to push the argument by forcing their way into bow seasons, I'd be very happy to ignore crossbows entirely. Be sure to place the blame where the blame truly lies.

I agree with Arthur. I also need to say that when push came to shove.....hunters will band together no matter what legal weapon is being used.

FYI and this is only my opinion.........the biggest threat to hunting is the loss of land to hunt due to several factors. While access to land is coming harder to come by, the average hunter is being forced to pay huge prices to lease or hunt public land, and public land can be crowded sometimes.

As for fuel for the antis, more damage is done by trophy fee hunting, and small high fence operations that are nothing more than a meat factory. For example, several non-hunters at work have no problems with hunters or hunting. A few of them do have a problem with the unscrupulous operations that seem to find a loophole in the law to stay in business, because they told me so during a discussion. What amazed me was the fact they knew or heard about these operations and I had never mentioned it. [X(]

What is an X bow ? I know Black Widow makes the X bows but they're expensive ! I'd choose bocote X if I were ordering one.

They are legal here in Arkansas and have no negative effects on archery season AT ALL

As far as discussing it ? Do you think the anti-hunters sit around and talk about "that thread" on Hunting.net where guys are discussing crossbows and such ??

No chance. They do not care if crossbows are legal in archery season or not. The additon of ANY hunters is a good thing, bowhunters especially if the reports are true on numbers declining who hunt. Theres strength in numbers

Cougar, I couldn't agree more. Around here you can expect most leases to run $1200 to $1500 per gun and you'd be lucky if that was for a mininum 100 acres per man. Some of my buddies last year paid $1500 per gun, 4 guns on 70 acres total! It was a 1 buck county and the owner would let them take an additional doe. You can drive all over and see high fences going up. What we are ending up with is "hunting" for guys with money who only go out, are taken to a stand and told which buck they can take for x amount of dollars. Not only are the average guys getting priced out, before long we will have lost our hunting knowledge as none is required for this type of activity. I've never understood how high fences could be legal anyway. The deer are supposed to belong to the people of the state as a natural resource. Seems high fences are no different than daming up a river or stream to divert the water to your place. I've always thought if someone wanted to high fence their property, which should be their right to do, they should be required to have the DNR certify that all of the free roaming deer have been driven from their property prior to high fencing it. Then they can buy their stock and only sell hunts to their client who would know they are shooting cultivated deer. I, too, see the loss of land as the greatest threat we and especially our children face.

on a bit of a different note .......... land availability isn't in the top 3 things I worry about.

#1 - game farming

Yep, game farming gives antis more fuel than anything else.

I totally agree!!!

Cougar, doesn't game farming tie in with loss of hunting land? I've always considered it an aspect of the overall problem. I'm sure the antis focus on this moreso just as most of their arguements are only fragments cherry picked for maximum emotional impact.
