I give up....any ideas?
Ok. Here's the situation. I shoot Beman ICS in a 340, pull 69 pounds with a 30 inch draw, 29 inch arrow, off of a Drop Zone. I went to paper tune the other day, and was getting a 3 1/2" high right tear, at about 2 o'clock. I raised the rest, that worked a little, and then I lowered the nock. That also worked a little, but now I am stuck. I cannot get it to stop porpousing. I have a 2" high right tear at 6 feet, and a 2" low left tear at 10 yards. Anybody got any ideas?

RE: I give up....any ideas?
Are you trying different arrows?? I had one goldtip that shot totally different from the rest due to a weak spine on one side. The other factor I can think of is hand torque. What type of grip are you using??

Are you getting any collision at your rest. Try some baby powder on the rest to see. If not, recheck your nock height, should be just a fraction low of level. Good luck. If you are using a sling is it tight to your arm, if it is that may torque you bow forward.

Hard to tell with the information given but it certainly sounds like your getting some contact. Do you have another rest. Try putting that on and see if the problem goes away.

RE: I give up....any ideas?
I use a fairly loose grip, with no sling. It could be torque, but I just wonder if I could be that consistent in my grip, that I torque the same every time. Also, I wouldn't think I am getting any contact with the rest, as it is a drop away, although, I suppose anything is possible. I will investigate both and find out. As I was typing this, it occured to me, could I be making contact with the cables? Again, I don't think so. N E way, anything else would be appreciated.

RE: I give up....any ideas?
Stupid question but where is cock feather. Thats why I don't shoot that high tech stuff, I ain't smart enough.:)

RE: I give up....any ideas?
Try turning the cock feather up. I actually have my cock feather out so I don't make contact with the cables. You might be on to something but I would think your tear would be to the left. What kind of bow are you shooting???

Another sugestion , make sure your cam , or cams are in proper rotation , or in time . If they are not it can be hell on up and down arrow flight .

RE: I give up....any ideas?
Carbons can go bad after being shot some, so defintely try several different arrows. Another good possibility is cam timing and/or synch. Also check your axle to axle length and brace height to make sure your rigging hasn't creeped. Along with that, check your tiller. I know squat about dropaway rests and don't want to know anything about 'em. Put a good rest on there, like a GKF Golden Premier, and I could help you get rid of that porpoising.;)

I would also check the fletching clearance. I had to get a Sims cable slide to pull my cables over another 1/8" or so to clear the 4" fletches I have to use for bowhunter class in 3D, before that I was getting contact on the cables unless I turned it so that cock fletch was slightly towards the riser, but then one was facing more down and got contact on the rest. No problems since I got the cable slide, but I had to put lipstick on the fletches edges to find this out. Now with the new cable slide, I shoot cock fletch up with no issues. You may also want to check timing on the rest as well, it should completely drop into the bracket before the arrow is halfway over the rest, if it is dropping to late it will raise hell with fletching contact.

RE: I give up....any ideas?
My first though was clearence as well but not in the typical sense. When dose the arm on the DZ start to drop? Dose it just top out at full draw or dose it top out quickly and stay up through most of the power stroke?
I think (without actually seeing the bow or you shooting) that the arm may be coming up too soon and dropping to late. Just a thought but worth a look. |
