A very painful death...

This is a pic of a buck that I found dead in December, but there really was nothing left of his body, so he was dead much earlier than December. It looks like this guy died a very slow and painful death. He had smooth electric fence wire wrapped all over his right antler. He then had a loop of the wire around his neck. The wire ran from his right antler under his chin and was really buried into his white neck patch. From there it continued on and was really cutting into his left ear. It looked like skin had actually grown over the wire. The wire continued on and wrapped around his antler some more. He obviously rubbed his left side clean but it must have hurt to try and rub the right side because there was still velvet there. My initial guess is that this buck died of strangulation judging by how tight the wire was around his throat. Another reminder to pick up your garbage, always. The pics are very big but I wanted you to see the wire up close.

It may not have been all trash wire, though. We are all the time finding hotwire pulled off the posts and the insulators popped off from deer running straight into it. He may not have seen the wire, and ran straight into it and just got tangled up.

Nice rack either way. Thats a very nice rack.

Damn, what a way to die.

And to think that some folks out there consider it bad for deer to get shot by a hunter. I'll bet that took a long time to kill him.

What a waste.

Its a shame it had to die the way it did. It is a nice rack. I think it is neat that the one side had all the velvet rub offf. Makes me wonder exactly what went on.

here are 2 bucks from last year that got wrapped up in a electric fence while fighting, One was dead when found the other really close and died before getting free. They both scored around 150 or so.

Good bucks die every year by means other then by hunters and imo it sucks. It's a shame, that animal couldn't have given a hunter the memories of a lifetime. I hope he rest peacefully knowing he spread his genes all over your county;)
