RE: Are you a DOE hunter?
Lazy Archer,
I feel like you...I'll take a doe..The North Carolina Wildlife Resource Commission feels that in order to have healthy and diverse herds here in Columbus County, we should take 4 Bucks and 2 does..... I agree with EDDIEE though, some times you need to let the doe walk so you may get a chance at a big buck folling her....I will follow our laws and and take 2 does... |
RE: Are you a DOE hunter?
I grew up shooting does. When I first started hunting you would only get one doe tag. Now depending on which area you hunt you can get many, many more. I like to shoot them first to get something in the freezer. We have lots of deer so it isn't too hard.
Some things are true whether you believe them or not. |
RE: Are you a DOE hunter?
I sure do. I have my doe tag plus 2 bonus tags this year. My son has his doe tag and 1 bonus tag.
We do have an unwritten rule not to shoot a doe that still has fawns with it. |
RE: Are you a DOE hunter?
I am a deer hunter, a doe is a deer, I will kill a doe just as quick as a buck as long as it is legal. Given a choice between a young buck or a doe I will take the doe, given the choice between a big buck and a doe, I will take the buck.

RE: Are you a DOE hunter?
Lazyarcher,
It looks like once again I am the lone voice of the no-does on this thread. I don't shoot them. |
RE: Are you a DOE hunter?
I have three doe tags and one buck tag...and I will do my best to fill each one of them. As Rob stated, we have an overabundant doe population and need to cull the doe herd down significantly in certain areas.
It makes no difference to me as I can't taste the difference between the two...<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle> |
RE: Are you a DOE hunter?
Since all I do is bow-hunt, I'll gladly take a doe. I won't take one early in the season with a fawn unless the fawn is really healthy. Once I get two in the freezer, I'll be selective for a buck with a decent rack. I'll take a doe before a spike anyday.

RE: Are you a DOE hunter?
I prefer does over bucks any day! Not to say I won't down a buck, but if a doe and buck walk out together, I'll shoot the doe nine out of ten times. I could care less about antlers.

RE: Are you a DOE hunter?
I've taken a doe a few years ago, with an arrow. I didn't know a yearling and a fawn were with her or i wouldn't have taken her. While trailing her the fawn wuld bleat for her(didn't care for that) the fan had a notch in her left ear,I saw her for the next two years.felt sorry for her and wouldn't take a shot at her, but any other doe i would. and those who think they have to "settle" for a doe for your first, you are still taking a trophy! most older does have to watch out for 2 or 3 deer, where a buck watches out for #1

RE: Are you a DOE hunter?
In Iowa we are allowed two anysex tags and two antlerless only tags so I would shot a doe every year. Like others have said about thier areas ours has alot of deer. Sometimes fill our anysex tags with does as well rather than wait for the bucks.
