Deer eat meat!

a good friend who is an avid hunter also saw where they documented deer eating baby birds out of their nest. Have you ever heard of this?

Never heard of that but I know some deer have eaten meat. Some feed contains animal product and that's how CWD got across the Mississippi. At least that's what I've read.

How do they climb the tree to raid the nests?

Floating around somewhere there is a video showing deer eating quail eggs out of the nest. I have no clue as to which video it is though.

Yup, a friend observed a deer pick up, and munch on, a dead blackbird in his back yard.

Yep, I've read that in several articles over the years...no names of which I can recall right off hand but they were credible sources. If I remember correctly the cases were very rare and it wasn't like meat was even close to a major staple of a whitetails diet.

I read years ago about somewhere on the pacific NW coast I cant remember if it was Alaska or Washington, the deer would eat fish that washed up on the shore.

Like DFA said, there have been photos taken of deer eating stranded minnows in dried up river beds.

I read it in either field & Steam or Outdoor Life about them eating bird eggs. It has been several years ago but I do remember seeing it.

I have personally witnessed deer feeding on alewives that had washed up on the shore or Lake Michigan near the Straits of Mackinaw.

As strange as it sounds, I had read that before. Still have
tough time picturing a whitetail snacking on baby birds!

The fact that deer where founding eating baby birds was documented on a study that was done a certain bird species. The nests of this particular bird started to disappear. They set out video cameras to see exactly what was going on and found not only were it deer destroying the nests, they found the whitetails actually seeked out the birds in order to eat them.

The fact that deer eat fish was found on a coastal area where documented that fish came to the shore when a certain species of fish beached themselves and the deer seeked them out as food.
