Question about picking your broadhead

How do you go about picking the weight of your broadhead? I shoot a PSE Fire Flite 33, it is set at 60 pounds, and my draw length is 28". I am shooting Carbon Express Arrows, with a Muzzy 3 blade, 125 grains. It seems like a lot of guys are shooting a lighter broadhead than that. Is this ok for my set up?

RE: Question about picking your broadhead

It depends on if you want to stiffen or limber up your spine. The heavier the broadhead, the (i can think of the word I'm looking for [:@]) the more "limbber" the spine, the lighter-the stiffer it is.

Nobody can tell you if that is the right size head. You need to shot a bare shaft with field points of 125 and 100. That will tell you what size you need to shot.

RE: Question about picking your broadhead

BigDaddy, If you selected your Carbon Express arrows using the chart supplied by that manufacturer for your set up, as I'm sure you did. You have a perfect match as stated above. In many situations you can actually use one size weaker spine. Manufacturers tend to stay to the heavy side in there recommendations. One more little detail. I don't reply to a post unless I know the answer from experience. Too many people like to blow smoke based on opinion not experience.

RE: Question about picking your broadhead

Q. What is the best weight broadhead?

A. It really depends on your arrows, draw weight and length of the arrow. The key is to pick
a head weight that matches well with the spine of your arrows for your individual setup. For
the most part 100 to 125 grn heads will work with most bow/arrow combinations. The only
real way to know for sure is to tune and shoot different weight heads out of your setup until
you find the right combination. As a rule though anything in the 100 to 125 class should
work well with the properly spines arrows for your setup.

You can find more info on picking the right broadhead on my website. www.broadheadtests.com
