How Many Have Slacked Off This Winter???
We've had a sloppy winter in my parts making it hard on me to get out and shoot regularly like I usally do and when I finally did get out the other day man I could tell. My muscles have gotten weaker and staying at full draw long enough to settle the pin in became tough after a dozen or so shot. How about y'all? How many of you haven't kept up on your practice!

Haven't shot in a while. Getting new sights and new strings soon and just didn't see the point.

RE: How Many Have Slacked Off This Winter???
I had great plans to shoot a league this winter and it just never happened. It's also to cold for me to shoot outside durring the winter for it to be enjoyable to me. Maybe if I lived further south but not in Maine.

RE: How Many Have Slacked Off This Winter???
Shooting 2-3 times a week right now. I'll gradually increase as we get closer to bow season. Right before bow season starts I shoot every day even if it is only a dozen arrows.

RE: How Many Have Slacked Off This Winter???
I almost never shoot theru the winter or spring. This year I am hunting turkeys with the bow, so I would like to be shooting now but the weather says otherwise. We are finally getting a warming trend and I still have a month and a half to the season. Plenty of time yet to go.

RE: How Many Have Slacked Off This Winter???
I dont' shoot too much over the winter. I'll pick it up once in awhile and go to the indoor range for fun. Mainly because (believe it or not) it messes with my golf swing:D. However I go at it hard for 2 months before the season opens here shooting everyday. By the time opening day rolls around I'm as ready as I can possibly be even if I shot all winter. Plus it's not too much fun outside in Central NY when it's -20 out and 75 feet of snow.

RE: How Many Have Slacked Off This Winter???
I have been shooting so much the past couple months I am already in mid season form and 3-D season just starts tomorrow with the IBO Indoor Worlds inCleveland[8D]
I just hope I don't screw up ![]() Locally 3D started about 3 weeks ago. |
RE: How Many Have Slacked Off This Winter???
This has probably been discussed before, but do you think shooting all year round as opposed to getting really tuned a couple months before the season makes you any better or more prepared?
It's great for the people that can and do shoot all year and obviously it can't hurt your performance. But in the long run do you get "better" by shooting all year round or do you think there's a point where you're as good as you are going to get and as ready as you will be? |

I wouldn't say there is a point where you will be as ready as you will ever be....but there is a point where good enough is good enough. Confidence is KEY to shooting. If one practices 2 months and feels 100% confident in their ability I say go for it. |
RE: How Many Have Slacked Off This Winter???
I don't shoot over the winter.........next year I think I will get into a 3D league........for the fun, not the practice though. I start shooting as soon as the weather is OK usually April. Towards the end of summer I put the fieldtips away and start shooting from my ladder stand in hunting clothes.......2 1/2 months of that plus the 2 1/2 months of field tip launching before that and I feel more then ready for the season.

RE: How Many Have Slacked Off This Winter???
I ususally shoot year round, weather permitting, just because I love to shoot. To me it's never been about practice, practice, practice. Archery has just always been my passion.

RE: How Many Have Slacked Off This Winter???
NY I'm with you on that one.I have been shooting for thirty years, and don't think things can change much with me.To me it's kinda like riding a bike I can still ride one even though I haven't in a long while.Don't get me wrong though shooting before hunting season and reworking the muscles are a must.I usually shoot a little in the winter to break the boredome.

RE: How Many Have Slacked Off This Winter???
Nope no slackin' here.:D
11 winter league outdoor 3D shoots, 3 other various shoots, another the next 2 weekends, then the PA Spring Bowhunters Festival with shooting all weekend.......then into spring and summer 3D leagues and IBO and ASA shoots. It seems like my bow is in my hand every single day at some point even if it's just shooting 10-15 arrows in my basement, and I'm averaging easily 100 arrows a weekend. All this shooting melts into the hunting season perfectly.......by then after countless shoots, angles, judging yardage etc shooting at game is second nature. The shot process is generally very fluid and automatic. Practice does indeed make perfect with a bow......well maybe not perfect, but easier anyway.;) |

I have slacked up. I have way too many things on my plate. I did build a new deck on my house and plan to practice and drop a few from there this year. I'm really thinking about changing jobs soon which will screw up my best hunting spot. Oh well plenty of places out there to hunt and even better ones yet to be discovered. I just better be ready since I plan on loosing my red dot scope this year. |

RE: How Many Have Slacked Off This Winter???
Well I didn't shoot from last November till about 2 weeks ago. I had surgery in there and wasn't able to shoot back in the beginning of February when I wanted too.....[:'(]
Anyhow, there is a local club about 4 miles from my house. They have an indoor 20 yard range, an 80 yard outdoor range, and a 30 target 3D course. They are also in alliance with about 5-6 other clubs within reasonable driving distance and have tournaments all over. They actually start this Sunday, but I won't be shooting competition until the first week in April when they will have a charity shoot. I have been shooting indoor and plan to go outdoor next week a bit to get the Patriot sighted in for more than 20 yards and dialed in for 3D's. I gotta say with tonight being the 5th time I have shot since November, tonight at the indoor I shot a 428 w/ 22 X's. This isn't the best out there, but the bow was finally tuned to my liking last Tuesday and I shot this with skinny Gold Tip 75/95's. I hope to buy some Pro 22's soon for this summers 3D. |
RE: How Many Have Slacked Off This Winter???

RE: How Many Have Slacked Off This Winter???
Unfortunately I've slacked off big time this winter. I've only been out once sinc the end of bow season (October). Had a baby in November, spent the remaining portion of the winter training hard for work and now I'm off on a 6 month intensive course. Going to try and get back into it here fairly quick and do some outdoor 3-D shoots in the spring and summer.

RE: How Many Have Slacked Off This Winter???
I shot my last deer of the season with my bow near the end of November. That's the last time I shot my bow. Normally, I would've started by now, but the "global warming" hasn't caught up with my area. ;)

RE: How Many Have Slacked Off This Winter???
I joined a 3d league this winter hoping when it was done I could shoot outside. Problem is this Michigan snow just won't go away!

RE: How Many Have Slacked Off This Winter???
I have gotten very lazy this past winter with shooting my bow! I like shooting outdoors and it won't stop snowing here either. I have been going to the shop and shooting some different bows as I am looking to get a new Bowtech! kinda fun!!!!!:):):)

RE: How Many Have Slacked Off This Winter???
Not to rub it in, but where I live in Texas, I was shooting Saturday and Sunday in my backyard with a temp in the mid 60s in shorts and a T-shirt. :D
