RE: please tell me just one negative to crossbows
The way you and some others make it sound. You can just pick up your crossbow and sit in a blind 200yds away from where the deer are moving and just pick them off one by one. Sorry but you must set up your hunt in the EXACT SAME WAY as you would if you had a compound bow in your hands. The only difference is when the shot actually takes place. The SET UP is the SAME, as is the effective range, how the energy is stored, how the energy is used, the type of projectile, the mode of propellant (string). And before someone starts spouting off about scopes I have seen red dot scopes on compound bows! So everything is the EXACT SAME THING except a crossbow has a stock and keeps the string cocked, but it's like some kind of "leap of faith" for some of you to see that. Sorry but my six year old can see that they are the same. |
RE: please tell me just one negative to crossbows
ORIGINAL: BigJ12 You're calling me a slob hunter because ethically I believe the effective killing range of a 12 gauge to be less than 100 yards? |
RE: please tell me just one negative to crossbows
I had no point on that comment - thus the smiley faces
I tell you what though ........... I can shoot better groups with todays advanced shotguns at 200 yards than you can with a crossbow at 75 yards or a recurve at 20 yards :D thats perspective, isn't it ? And then I'll pick up YOU compound and shoot good groups at 40 yards too boot ! |
RE: please tell me just one negative to crossbows
hey - the guy is killing the deer he shotos how - how in the WORLD can you call that slob ?

When I talk about effective range I am refering to the reccommended distance at which it is ethical to shoot game. A Winchester Supreme Partition Gold as well as the Platinum Tips and most of the new Sabow slugs on the market today have an effective range of 200+yds LOOK IT UP before you call someone an idiot. Now I feel the need to say this because I'm sure it will never cross your mind:eek: there are vairables to take into consideration. The slugs should be fired out of a Fully rifled barrel (that is what they are intended for) You won't get the range out of your pop's smoothbore shotgun. But if you were using them in a smooth bore you are more of a slob hunter than I gave you credit for. This is the last I will say about slug ballistics. Back to crossbows. |
RE: please tell me just one negative to crossbows
Byron Ferguson is a fancy, show of, close range trick shooter. I'll shoot at $20 bills all day with the man [:-]
It's the same as calling me a slob for only taking shots at up to 100 yards. Uh ............ I don't think so |
RE: please tell me just one negative to crossbows
Side Note:
I recommended Winchester Supreme Partition Golds to my Stepmom for shotgun season. Well she bought a box, but didn't bother to sight in her gun with them - I guess she figured they'd shoot the same. Well we all know that they don't - they have a greater range and kick like a mule. So she's out hunting and shoots at a buck the unexpected kick forced a not so pleasant meeting between the scope on her gun and her eye. She came home with a dead deer, a black eye and broken glasses. [:'(]:D |

FYI my shotgun has a fully rifled barrell I guess I have more strict rules for whats ethical than you - If that makes me a slob hunter than I guess thats what I am. |
