ONE BUCK!!!???

I live in indiana and this year you can only harvest one buck total the entire year.I was wondering what other states are like this and what people think about it.

Here in Ontario its one tag for the season, by default its an antlered tag, but theres a lottery that can make it an antlerless (any deer) tag. Its been this way for as long as I can remember, the only good thing is that we can party hunt and legally fill each others tags as long as the holder of the other tag is in the bush hunting at the time, that way your hunting doesn't have to end with the first deer you shoot.

Kansas...been like that for many, many years. One buck per hunter per year in the entire state. I like it that way personally, otherwise the quality of the deer herd would likely suffer.

I'm in Indiana also Ghost and I'm looking forward to seeing an improvement in the maturity of the buck populations. Saw alot of fork horns and spikes last year.

The way I took it, this came about because of the requests of hunters and there were even open forums where we had a chance to discuss our concerns.

I think it will be a good thing.

I remember something about them trying it for 5 years and reevaluating the heard and the rule after that.

There are always you bonus tags and I love doe meat, don't you?

We'll just have to be patient. I'm holding out for a wallhanger this year. Trying to any way.

Good luck this season Timber Ghost and everyone else!

In Va. we can kill 3 buck a year, and a ton of doe. If you hunted bow, blackpowder, and gun and killed your limit every day you could take 3 bucks and over 100 does, we have a bit of an over population problem.

There was a discussion on another forum involving Indiana hunters, and many of them said they had no idea there were &quot;open&quot; meetings. And the couple guys that did attend said they were given about 20 seconds to start talking then told to sit down before they had a chance to offer any suggestion or rebuttal. My understanding, and confirmed by a couple Indiana Conservation Officers, is the reason this law was put into place was strictly because of the Indiana Bowhunters Association. The general hunting population wasn't given the chance to add their 2 cents. I'm not saying the one buck rule is a bad thing, but allowing a small special interest group to determine what we can and can't shoot is a bad thing. Guess thats just the way things are.

I live in Southern Indiana and am all for the 1 buck limit. I want to see more 2 1/2 year old bucks. I hope this will encourage more hunters to pass on yearling bucks.

Just a thought, but maybe if more bowhunters would join their states' bowhunting organizations, not only would they have known about things like this, it would give them a collective voice on issues when it matters.

SugarRidge State FWA and Pike State Forest.

I'm lucky enough to have hooked up with the Wildlife Manager from SugarRidge. He and a buddy sat in climbers one evening this year and he saw 6 bucks and said 3 were within 12 yds.

Here in Colorado you only get one deer a year. Unless you apply for a unit that has CWD and then I believe you can harvest two does. For the last three years (I think) they have taken off the point restrictions for deer througout the state. In the unit we hunt, does seem to outnumber the bucks by quite a bit. I would love to harvest a buck, but for now our main concern is meat in the freezer.

I live in Southern Indiana also. I think it is a good idea to help
bring the buck herd up in age. Maybe it will keep people from
harvesting the smaller bucks.

In Maryland
Bow - 2 bucks and 2 doe
rifle - 2 bucks and 2 doe
muzzle - 2 bucks and 2 doe
After you kill your first deer you have to purchase a extra stamp for each additional deer. Licenses have changed up a lil also this year But thats Maryland for ya.

I also am from southern Indiana!!! There is many great areas to hunt here. I would like to see the mature buck population to go up as well, but right my property i hunt, there are about 4 or 5 buck that hang together. 2 of them being plenty mature for me.... in a couple more years if they're not killed, they'll die of old age.:) this area has many mature bucks according to me and other local friends that hunt. 1 of the 2 is at least 4 years old:) and i'm out to get em this year. i know he is at least this old cause i've shot at this same buck 4 years ago,,,, and he was a nice 8 pointer then. don't ask how i know...i just do..

RE: ONE BUCK!!!???

Minnesota... One buck period. It doesn't matter if its bow, gun or muzzleloader. Once you shoot a buck you're done for the year with any weapon. Even if you buy all three licenses. On the other hand anterless deer can be up to 5 deer in many areas by purchasing management tags.

PRACTICE....PRACTICE....PRACTICE......SUCCESS!

This year hunting in NW WI I have 7 tags. One buck with a bow one buck with a firearm. Its no Alabama but that's about all I can eat in a year.

Chief, sounds like you hunt pretty close to me. If you know where the firetower is on Pike State Forest, I am just down the road from there on private property. Well, it is private but might as well be public considering everyone and their brother trespasses on it.

Indy-
Yeah, I'd say so. I used to live less than a mile from the tower. We used to take the kids up there a few times a year to climb it before it was condemned. Now that I live back in Gibson county I'm still only about 7 mile from it and within 10 minutes or so from my hunting spots.

I, for one will be alot more choosey when it comes to my buck this year. In the beginning anyway. If I'm not seeing the buck I want that is subject to change<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>.
