Pa Spring Bowhunter Festival

Anyone going to the Pa. Bowhunter Festival? This is a great 3-D shoot in Souteast Pa. There will be 120 targets on 6 courses plus the Hammer course for those who like to live on the wild side. This years shoot will be April 9th and 10th from dawn to dusk on Saturday and dawn to 3:30 on Sunday. Quite a few venders and all the targets used for the shoot will be sold on Sunday evening. The shoot will be held at the J Edward Mack Scout Reservation in Brickerville, Pa. The festival benefits the BSA. The cost for the shoot is $16 for Saturday, $13 for Sunday or $25 for the weekend. ram96, send me your address and I'll mail you a flyer. This is the best shoot you'll attend all year.

BG I helped set up and tear down the first few years of the shoot. I now let the younger shooters do the hoofing. Now I just shoot until I can't pull the bow anymore then hit the food concessions and buy gear that I will probably never use. I just hope we have good weather this year. I can't remember the last time they had a Friday without rain. I'm sure I'll see you their. Just look for a worn out old guy piggin out on the bar-b-que and corn soup.:D

Ram I almost forgot you! I see your from Port Matilda and if not mistaken, thats very close to State College. Your best bet will be route 322 east. Route 501 is approximately 25 miles east of Hershey off 322. You turn north on 501 in a little berg call Brickerville. Camp Mack is about 2 miles off 322.

I'm one of the younger backs needed for set-up, unfortunately I won't make it there in time due to work.
I just hope I'll get there in time to go to Shady Maple restaurant!![:-]:D

If you've never been to this shoot, people need to get there and have some fun. You'll see some target bows on the courses, but it's really geared to the hunter, and just having some informal fun 3D shooting.

There's also an equipment auction Saturday night where you can get some great deals on all sorts of stuff, and then a target auction Sunday when the shoot is over.

BG Sure I know you.:D I have been a member of Hemlock for many years. I shot quite a bit with Hoakie, same style except with sights. I'm just getting back into competiton mode after a few years off. Couldn't make many of the winter 3-D shoots, but I will be at Hemlock's on Sunday. I hope to get my feet wet again at the WAF Archery Classic. If I do well I just might keep going for a few more years. If not, I'll hit the state 900 round and field/hunter competitions. I will make it a point to see you at Hemlock this week or Mack for sure.;)

Sniper,
Will be at Hemlock as well tomorrow.......I'll be the tall guy wearing a black Bowtech hat with the Red/Black target colored bow.
I shot with a couple of your guys in a team $ shoot at Little Buffalo a few weeks ago (Dave Kurtz and Jesse Beare)

Matt and Sniper,

Looks like I'll miss another shoot this weekend---Hemlock. I got roped into working the Martin booth at Kinsey's dealer show. Hey, two, maybe three shows a year ain't that bad. Especially since it's just another form of fun for me.

Sniper151, I sent you a pm

The shoot will be held at the J Edward Mack Scout Reservation in Brickerville, Pa.
Help me out here. The earlier part of the post said Southeast PA so it can't be that far away from me. How about directions from Cabelas in Hamburg? I will probably have to work one day that weekend down at the shop with trout season so close but I can try to make it there the following day.

As for The Shady Maple....I have heard of their "eats" but have never been there. Sounds like a hearty breakfast would be in order before the shoot. ;)

RE: Pa Spring Bowhunter Festival

PABowhntr, Paul isn't it? You aren't all that far from the shoot. Easiest way I can tell you to come from Hamburg is right across I-78 to the Bethel exit (rt 501). South on Rt 501 takes you right to the shoot. And if you cross Rt 322 you went too far. Does this help.

I'd like to see you there. You know, meet in person.

Matt / PA 03-15-2005 02:24 PM

RE: Pa Spring Bowhunter Festival

frank,
It's not far from you at all.......Barry gave you simple directions. Look on a Map for Rt501 , the Camp Mack Scout camp is only a couple miles north of the 322/501 intersection.
The shoot is a lot of fun and just an informal deal with nice terrain and a lot of varied shots.
You should come on down.....we might even be able to snag you a free hot dog or hamburger from the Big Buck Hilton. ;):D
I'll be there the whole weekend, as will Frank S. and we can hook up and shoot some together.
Try to come very early and register if you only have one day, that will give you the chance to shoot most of the courses.
We stay in the lodge at the end of the parking area to the right of the sight in / practice range.

RE: Pa Spring Bowhunter Festival

Hey Matt, am I invited? For the hotdog, I mean.

As for the direction, I figure Frank (thanks for that) is an old guy like me, and an archer so all kinds of directions gotta be kept simple. KISS

RE: Pa Spring Bowhunter Festival

We should set a time and place to get together at Mack. It would be a pleasure to meet the people we converse with in person. I'll probably be their both days, depending on weather. Snow I can handle, rain sucks. Anyone that will be attending this year should get their early and I do mean early or wait until after 12:00. Parking can be a real mess especially on Saturday.;)

RE: Pa Spring Bowhunter Festival

Thanks for the directions and suggestions guys. I will make it a point to get down there. I will try to give you a ring Matt the week before so we can firm things up. It sounds like alot of fun.

And Barry....I feel old, especially when the wife starts the naggin' but I am only in my mid-30s. ;)

BG I wish I would have known you were at the Kinseys show. I would have stopped in and said hi. I was there for Double Bull Blinds. That Camp Mack shoot is awesome! I will not be able to make it this year. I will be Kansas turkey hunting.

Do any of you guys shoot the CVAL summer 3d league? I shoot for TriValley.

Gees Frank. I got kids older than you. See you at Mack.
