mechanical head users

Hey all i was just wondering what kenitic energy you have while using mechanicals?

Currently I have 68 ft. lbs. of KE which should be enough to kill anything on this continent with any broadhead I choose. In my early years of bowhunting I didn't know what KE was and used very inefficient mechnaicals with a slow bow (217 fps) and still achieved pass throughs. You should be able to get enough KE for mechanicals with any of today's bows even with a short draw length. IMHO some hunters use KE as a crutch for generating excuses when they lose game to poor shots.

It really depends on the head your going to use. I shoot with 72 ft/lbs of KE so I can shoot just about any head I want. If you are in the low 50's you need smaller heads that open easier and penetrate better. The more KE you have the more options you have when it comes to choice. If you have some specific heads in mind let me know your KE levels and I will give you my opinions.

I have 86 ft. lbs with steelheads 100. I havent had an arrow stay with an animal in a very long time.

Wow, what draw weight are you shooting? You must be getting some crazy speed with fairly heavy arrows. I bet you're more worried about finding your arrow after it buries itself than getting a passthrough.;)

I just started bow hunting last year. How do I figure what my kinetic energy is?

go to:

they have a calculator for KE. You will need ur finished arrow weight and bow speed.
