Question about Mature bucks and game cam pics

At what period of the year do you get the most mature buck pictures on your game cams?

A friend and I were discussing this earlier. I would think summer time when they are feeding heavily would be the best time to get mature buck pics?? Obviously late Oct - mid Nov would be the best time to catch the most different bucks though.

What has your experience been with your cams? When do you get the most pics of mature bucks up and about?

I've actually gotten my best bucks during late summer, around September down here for us. Also lots of good pics late, in January & February.

I'll let you know when I get one.:(

I bought mine late last summer and the first few months were mainly trial and error. Once I got everything down good I got much better pics and filled the cam faster. I got my best results using mineral blocks and corn once the ground was covered in snow. However , I still dont have the mature bucks on film , I know their there , my father in law watches them in his back yard , but they seem to be camera shy.
The closest (I think) I came to getting one of the mature bucks was this winter. I have a pic with an 8pt who is being chased away from the bait pile by something that was approaching from behind the cam.
Maybe I'll have better luck this summer of getting a mature buck? One thing I'll try different is trying to eliminate my scent when putting out my cam. I haven't done that yet and it's probably the biggest reason I dont have the mature buck pic yet.[&:]

I usually get most of mine around August.

RE: Question about Mature bucks and game cam pics

Without a doubt, we have the most success in July and August
set up on alfalfa and beans. Here, during the month of July, deer
just pound the soybeans while the plants are still tender.
As summer goes on the beans get too high (as we've learned
from experience!) and it makes it almost impossible to get
pics along the field edges. So, we move our cameras to alfalfa
and they seem to love it just as much:).

If I had to pick just one food source though it would be alfalfa.
From our experience it seems as though deer will pass several
fields of corn or beans just to get to it.

Overall, I think my favorite pics come from scrape setups during
the pre-rut, rut and post-rut.

Most of my pics of mature animals also come from mid summer. I'm sure if I were wiling to set up on scrapes in the fall I could catch more pics but IMO it's not worth the chance of tipping off a big buck. I also like to have my cam out of the woods when the orange army invades. ;)

I guess I'm going to be the only one so far that says Oct/Nov is our best time for getting photos of mature deer. Granted we are getting more pictures of more deer in general just because of the rut, but the % of photos of bigger deer seems to be higher this time of year. During the late summer months I might get an entire roll of film developed with a one or two photos of nice bucks, and the rest does with fawns whereas during the rut it may be the exact opposite.
