hunting lease
hey just want a few peoples thought on this lease. i lost my lease from last year and a buddy may have an opening on his lease it is 10,000 w/ 20 hunters half of which only gun and muzzle loader hunt. i know the area pretty well i have hunted a ranch that is a couple of mile from it. there are huge some great deer, as well as pigs, turkeys, 10-15 ponds to fish. they are managing for trophy deer only allowing 3 year old and up deer to be harvested fineing anyone who takes a smaller one 500$. the thing that stings me is i have never paid more the $ 500 for a lease and this one is $ 1,500. what do you guys think??

RE: hunting lease
i screwed up 10,000 acres, 20 hunters mostly weekend and gun hunters, only 7-8 bowhunt.

RE: hunting lease
For only $1,500 I would jump on it!!! For a serious quality management program like they are trying for, you can't go wrong. You'd have to pay that much to hunt 100 acres here! [:-]

RE: hunting lease
that's what i thought, it cost 1,500 to go on a 5 day hunt and you don't know what you are going to get. they took 4 mature deer off it last year. well looks like i am going to have to get a few extra lawns to mow this summer.

RE: hunting lease
It's a good chunk of change but if you can afford it and are guarenteed a spot for years to come it might be wise to buy in. 10,000 acres is a lot of land and if managed well the potential is great for trophy deer. Dose this $1500 include just the lease or is some of it used to plant and maintain food plots?

RE: hunting lease
Its funny to see the 2 worlds of hunting. One guy is saying to jump on a $1500 lease cause its a steal, and yet I could not even comprehend shelling out $1500 to have a piece of hunting land. Not saying either one is good or bad, just wild how far apart they are.

RE: hunting lease
I guess I take hunting here in Ontario for grantite because I've never had to pay to hunt on land here ,but then again I don't hunt management land's either that have that type of quality deer on it .I guess if the deer herd's are of top quality as has been said, then I might just pay the 1500.00.

RE: hunting lease
it's tough, i want to take a 140 inch buck and if i hunted hard and had a little luch i could do that as well as hunt turkeys, hogs, and great fishing. it really is different than it was say 20 years ago where if you were a teacher-coach as i am i would have unlimited access to all kinds of hunting and fishing. all the good places are leases or paid hunts. it sucks but it is eather join or hunt public land where you will more than likely see more humans than deer.
|
RE: hunting lease
thats a deal you got to remember at a place like that you have a better chance at any given second to take a great buck.
|
RE: hunting lease
I would jump on it asap. Especially ifyou can also hunt turkey and other game. Are you allowed to harvest does as part of the management plan? I find antlers tough and not very tasty anyway[:-]

RE: hunting lease
Lets see here....10,000 acres divided by 20 hunters equals 500 acres/hunter. The lease will cost you $1500 so that works out to $3/acre.
Sad to say, but 3 dollars an acre where I hunt is cheap.....dirt cheap! |
RE: hunting lease
average is $10 here in ga. and on the rise.
|
RE: hunting lease
yes you are allowed to take numerous does they are going to get set up on a state program geared to balance buck to doe ratio and you will be allowed to check your own deer in. If it works out I will try to take at least 3-4 does for meat and wait for a moutable buck to take. thanks for the replys keep em coming

RE: hunting lease
It sounds better all the time. Don't let this slip away.

RE: hunting lease
Hey rush, that don't sound bad to me either, I WAS going to pay $1700 for approx 8000 acres, but a conflict of interest came up, so I won't be gettin on that one. Anyway, I'd jump on that one if I were you.
You wouldn't happened to be in TX would ya??:D |
RE: hunting lease
ORIGINAL: TerryM It sounds better all the time. Don't let this slip away. |

RE: hunting lease
Definitely sounds good to me. That is very cheap for around here!!! A good QDM club with 500 acres per member could easily go for $5,000 a year down here. We take our hunting VERY seriously:D
