best fixed head
im looking for the best fixed head that flys straight and goes with my field points. Is there such a head? Also that has great penetration. I plan on using them for deer and would like 100 grainers. HELP

RE: best fixed head
I shoot magnus stingers. As for flying with field points, if the bow is tuned properly and the broadhead spins true, it will fly with field points.

RE: best fixed head
Well, I see you are shooting a Mathews, so I doubt you can find one....:D
Um, Muzzy's are good, stingers are good...you may want to look at some of the newer low profile heads, such as the Boss Bullet, or Slick Trick. |
RE: best fixed head
I used the 100 grain NAP Nitrons this past season and was really impressed with them. They are pretty small with a 1 1/8" cut but they fly AWESOME! They are as accurate as any broadhead that I've ever used/seen and boy are those NAP blades sharp. I took two deer with them...the first one went 40 yds. and crashed and the second went 30 yds. layed down and got back up and went 40 yds. farther. For such a small broadhead it sure leaves a pretty good-sized hole. I will be using the Nitrons and Slicktricks again next fall.
Here's a photo of the damage the Nitron did to my 8-pt. from last season. It took out ribs on both sided but came through in perfect shape and just as sharp as it was out of the box. ![]() |

Try this link. It should offer some helpfull info. |
RE: best fixed head
Nitrons have a 1 1/16" diameter cut. But the difference between a 1 1/16" head and a 1 1/8 head is well, 1/32" per blade, which isn't a whole lot. Nitrons get my vote too for best fixed blade head. They are extremely tough, fly like fieldpoints, have great penetration, and the blades are among the sharpest factory blades I've ever seen.

RE: best fixed head
thunderheads are good and cheap but im gonna try slick tricks this seaosn

RE: best fixed head
I like the Wasp Hammer SST, but I've also had good results with NAP Thunderhead's and Magnus Stinger's. You have to have the bow properly tuned and the broadheads have to spin true.

RE: best fixed head
im looking for the best fixed head that flys straight and goes with my field points. Is there such a head? All things being equal, a smaller cutting diameter should fly closer to field points. However, everyone that bowhunts needs to test-shoot a BH with their setup before taking it in the field/woods to hunt. I've always numbered my arrow and broadheads. I then shoot the different combinations and find which fly closest to my field points. I then match up that particular BH and arrow for the life of each, using them only for hunting. The arrows I have trouble finding a BH match for I use for target practice and not for hunting. Despite a well tuned bow, I've found that fixed blades will rarely match up exactly with my field points. There are many great fixed blade BH's available. Wasp, Muzzy, NAP, and Barrie Archery/Rocky Mountain are just a few. The only way to decide which flys best from you're bow/setup is to shoot them yourself;):). Hope this gets you going in the right direction. TB |
RE: best fixed head
Seems like last year or the year before someone on here did a pole of all members, asking which head they killed deer with. Muzzy and Thunderheads were way up there at the top. Those 2 heads have been proven to be killers with YEARS of experience.
I've shot alot of different heads over the years and I've never really had any that wouldn't shoot well. I guess it all depends on your setup. |
RE: best fixed head
Back when I shot fixed heads, I really liked the Slick Tricks. I also liked the Muzzy three blade.

RE: best fixed head
There is such a head and it is the Montec G5.....but first, you must start with perfectly straight arrows. Your wasting time and money if they are not.
