Wow! I am really surprised at the bait question.

Upon entering the home page the poll about baiting really surprised me. So far after 1,980 votes the baiting being legal for deer was leading 51%-47%. I had no idea most hunters felt hunting deer over bait should be legal!

This is a touchy topic with some people.

I do not hunt over bait but will not look down on someone who does legally either.

Then some will make the arguement that hunting over agriculture crops or mast crop is the same thing as hunting over bait:eek: Which I do not agree with them being the same at all.

Bait?
I'm not the sharpest country boy in the feed shed but what does big deer worth alot of money and no one checking to see if they are that way naturally add up to?

There is no doubt that baiting deer takes at least half the challenge out of bowhunting. I enjoy the challenge of a good stalk. Others like to sit over a pile of corn and simply wait for a deer to come to them. We hunt for the meat and the satisfaction of it.Right??Some are satisfied with taking the easy path..To each there own..I feel the more people who sit on a bait, the less people I have to worry about messing up my stalk on a deer or elk.;)

I disagree,Baiting is still no sure thing. I do not bait for my self but for my daughters. Deer know how it got there. At any rate I would rather them have a good time watching other wild life on stand to hold there intrest. I have sat the bait pile in late season, with very few sightings.I don't beleive there is a lot of difference in using scents or a food plot vs. bait.

Bating is legal in NC and I use it as a I would any other tool. I see it no different than a field crop, food plot or food source of any other type. We are all using a deer's hunger to hopefully put him in range to take him. Where I hunt food sources are abundant, pressure from dog hunting is high,so if I don't make my area a little more appealing I could go all season and never see a deer. I challenge any of you that feel baiting is wrong to come hunt with me I'll put you in baited and non baited stands,I don't thing it'll take long for you to understand why I use bait, food plots, crops, natural food sources as just another tool. Many of these areas are very thick so stalking is out of the question as a hunting method.

Its a, fast-I want it now world we live in today. I believe many hunters want the easiest possible method to score on a deer and look to baiting as a sure-fire method.
Years ago I baited and found it was much easier to shoot a deer. Even much easier then sitting near a productive cornfield edge or a mast tree.

We can bait where I live & in the early season its almost a slam dunk, but after a few weeks the deer start aproaching with extreme caution or just wait till dark. At that point its like hunting any other food source & you need to get them before they get there or after they leave. I think they look at it just like any other food & once they know your there they wont come in as redily as before. Also, here anyway, once they made it leagle, everybody started dumping corn so now they dont need your pile as they know where theres more. I saw a guy with his pickup filled right up with corn, had a coal shuvel & wheel barrel in back. I cant compete with this guy but if thats what he wants to do thats ok by me.

I just dump a 5 gallon bucket out every couple days in an area I want to hunt. Horse food works well too & there are sure alot of critters that come to eat as well.

I might add that to date I'v not taken a mature buck over bait. Like someone said, the deer know where that food came from & the big bucks wait till night to come out. In my experience anyway.
