turkeys with a bow this spring. I am getting a little excited about breaking in the new alliegance on a Turkey this spring. What are you guys going to be using for: bow, arrows, b-heads...

I am going to be using the Alliegance 29" 70#
Beman arrows
broadhead not sure yet, rocket maybe.

HuntingNet will be having an get-together in Branson, MO this May. It's called the the Tails 'n' Scales Bowbash. It's a combo of turkey hunting on public land and bowfishing on Table Rock Lake.

Watch the forums for more details.......

This'll be my first year going for them strictly with a bow. Last year I kind of did half and half. I'll be using what's in my signature only I'll be dropping the poundage down to 50 instead of 60.

You may learn that you want to drop the draw weight of your bow down about 10 pounds or so. I don't know if you've ever gone turkey hunting with a bow but sometimes Toms don't cooperate and you'll need to be able to hold at full draw for upwards of a minute. Also, with a 70lb bow you're sure to blow right through a bird, the trick is to keep the arrow inside the gobbler for quick recovery, most people will use a bow set at or around 50 lbs and will use a blunt tipped broadhead. I'll be filing the tips down on my Muzzys just for this occasion.

The thought had crossed my mind but it depends if I draw a tag or not. In Maine, the spring turkey hunt is by a lottery permit and thus far I've been unsucessful obtaining a tag.

If not it's spring scouting and shed hunting. Maybe a little fly fishing as well.

I only want to hunt turkey with a bow. I want too but I'm not sure what time I will have. So yes if I can sneak it by the wife.

I'll be chasing gobblers this spring. And as much as I love to bowhunt, my favorite rig for turkeys is still a Remington 870 flinging 3 1/2" #4s. Maybe one of these days I'll start flinging arrows at them too.

I will also be out chasing turkeys this year, will be the first time in about 10 that I have gone and I will be using my bow. Will need to practice shooting from a stool on the ground, not 20 feet in a tree. Has anyone ever tried hunting turkey's from a tree stand?

RE: How many of you guys will be chasing Turkeys...

I hunt them every year from my blind. I will use my new Darton Tundra this
year set on 60 lbs. using Gt 55/75's and 125 gr. spitfire broadheads.
Or...I might use my 2314's and 100 gr. spitfires. Unsure yet as to the arrow
but the spitfires I am sure of from past experiences. They work very well on
turkey's.

I will be giving it a go though my Old Glory might be a bit long to use in my blind. ;)

Yep, I'll be chaing them with the stick and string again this year. Usually use NAP Gobbler Getter heads, but leaning towards 100 grain Muzzys with adder points on the back the year.

Good luck!!!

I'll be in this year with the bow. Going two weeks to inlaws in Southern Indiana. Bow first week or until I want to kill something than switch to shotgun. If done early and no one else wants to hunt probably cruise over to Missouri and hunt public.

I will be taking the same setup as whitetail. But I will probably back the draw down five pounds or so.
Hoyt Vtec w/ Grim Reaper 100's shooting about 255 fps.

It will be a long two weeks of hill hiking and a sore mouth from calling.

Lefty,
Just be carefull when someone says they are going to "teach you the ropes". I remember when you told me that you were going to "teach me the ropes". What you didn't tell me was the "rope" was a drag rope, and that it was tied to your deer that I helped drag back to your truck!;) Hope you guys have good luck, seen a lot of turkey out there the last few weeks.

RE: How many of you guys will be chasing Turkeys...

Yep I will be after the long beards in the spring as well beings I have about a bazillion of them living in my woods right behind my house. During the fall I would count them flying up to roost from my treestand everynight and now we see them out feeding about everyday but come spring time they will break up and spread out to other woodlots.

I am planning to buy a ground blind, any suggestions on a blind big enough for me and my 11 year old son? Or maybe I will just set him on the ground and put me in the blind since he will be using a shotgun and I am bow only for everything.
