They make some nice bows. Not quite my cup of tea but fine bows none the less. Shoot them a few times. Only you can tell if they fit just right or not. Good luck!

BTW most all bow risers are machined from aluminum:eek:

RE: Martin Bows???

I bought a Martin Fury back in January of 97, it has been a very good dependable bow. Its not as quite as I like, and it has a lot of shock but it was desgined for speed at the time. Its still fast by today standards being at 330 IBO. I am sure the Martins of the 05 line up are just as quiet and smooth as most other bows on the market today. Don't quote me or take my word on that, because for one different people can shoot the same bow and you'll get endless results regarding smoothness, hand shock and quitness. If you realy want a Martin, shoot several of their models and I am sure you will find one that you'll like. If you are worried about it being dependable, well don't because Martin makes a excellent bow that will last for years. I think most major brand bow companys have to build a quality dependable product just to say in business and be in the running at the top. If they didn't they couldn't afford to say in business any more, Martin has been around for a long time now, and they have excellent customer service. If you have any other questions feel free to ask away. Good luck

I bought a RazorX last year. I shot a lot of bows before making that decision. I am happy with it. I agree that you should shoot them and see how they feel to you. Martin has been around a long time and have a good warranty, hoping I'll never need it though. My bow is reallly quite and feels good to shoot. Its very smooth drawing, doesn't even feel like the 70# its supposed to be, but I double checked it on 2 scales. Its that smooth.

I'm going to buy either a Shadowcat or Cougar this year for hunting. I have to shoot them to decide which.

I bought a Panther Magnum in '02 and couldn't be happier. It is the quietest bow I've never heard. I get good speed for a 26" gator-arm draw length. Very smooth and quiet with a 33" A-A and 7.25" BH. I love it, and will keep it as a backup if I ever get another bow.

I own a 5 year old Martin Cougar Mag and a 2 year old Hoyt Protec, cam 1/2. Wanna know which bow goes out hunting with me?? The Martin that cost $200 less and is 3 years older. I'll hunt with that bow until it falls apart. I love that bow!!

I was at my local pro shop the other day and he got a bow in for a guy and it was a jaguar magnum with the dyna cam and it was a sweet little package short very light, I never got to shoot it so I can't tell ou about the smoothness or hand shock but from what I've been told you would be very happy with it, and the price was very reasonable. the only thing that I didn't like is the silver/crome looking cam and idler wheel. Also i am not sure why but martin made the 2005 model 10fps less than the 2004 model jaguar. went from 310fps to 300fps.

RE: Martin Bows???

The last time I was looking for a bow I wanted to find the finest made bow within a reasonable price range that wasn't considered a big name bow. I narrowed it down to Martin and Merlin. I ended up going with the Merlin, but in hindsight I wish I got the Martin. I think they offer a little more in terms of performance and have more of a selection geared toward hunting. I think I would have had better success with the Martin in terms of resale as well. They are both fine bow manufacturers and it will be hard to beat their quality. Like the others said, check out the Martins and see which one you like. Let us know what you decide.

RE: Martin Bows???

Although I've owned many brands, in proportion I have owned more Martin bows. Why? I have never had trouble with any Martin bow that I have owned! Never!

Unlike the "Big Three" as I like to call them(Bowtec, Hoyt, and Matthews), Martin has been around much longer........yes, Hoyt is not the old Hoyt from years ago. Although Martin does have a couple of expensive bows they also realize that the average archer/hunter cannot or will not pay $600-$800 for a top shooting bow. In my opinion the "Cougar" line of compound bows is the one of the top shooters for the money.

Check out the CougarIII , it will impress anyone who takes the time to try one out. I was amazed at it's overall shootability in how it felt in my hand before , during , and after the shot. Martin has more innovations (patents) than any other bow mfg. Some of Martins earlier patents have been tweaked here and there only to be called new "innovations" by another mfg.;)

Imo Martin is second to none in the quality product dept.!

I shoot a hoyt and love it. I have friends who have martins and they seem to be good bows but if your you like your hoyt better stay with that brand because if anything goes wrong or everytime you make a bad shot you will wish you had your hoyt. check out the classifieds you can save alot of money on top notch bows.

RE: Martin Bows???

Spike, as a staff shooter for Martin I have a little experience. Not a lot, but maybe can help you through this. First let me say that your man at the local shop is right. Martin bows do have aluminum risers. And so do about 95% of all the other bows. So that is not even a consideration here. They do have as good a quality in materials and workmanship as I've found in other bows, regardless of price or reputation.

I would suggest you shoot a lot of bows before buying. You have to determine what you want to use the bow for primarily and choose accordingly. If it's primarily a hunting bow then I would not necessarily recommend a SlayR. I shoot one and it's a real speed burner. I consider it on the heavy side for hunting. It makes a great 3D bow.

Depending on what you can or want to spend, I would look at the Cougar III on the high end of the price range. The Orion or Quest would be a good choice also. Of the two I like the quest. If going with the Cougar I would recommend the Nitrous cam for outright speed. It's a two cam system but don't let all the old myths deter you from two cams. If choosing the other two I would probably go for the TruArc cam. It's slower but just easier to shoot than the single cam.

If you have a proshop that carries Martin then Do some serious looking at the RazorX or the Saber. These are two nice shooter. Here agin, the Razor is available with the Nitrous cam, but in a longer ATA. More in the hunting version both bows are to be had in the TruArc cam. If you want the more accurate then I'd have to say the Saber for all around performance, speed and forgiveness. It's just a complete package in one bow.

For the most part you should find the bows fairly vibration free (there is always some) and pretty quiet, too. Of all the bows I mentioned above I think the Cougar would be the most expensive at a normal retail of about $500 to $529. So that should give you an idea of what to expect.

May I suggest a Reflex if you like the Hoyt technology. It is a Hoyt bow at discount price.

I just got a used SlayR at an unbelievable price from the classifieds on archerytalk. I couldn't be happier. It has the nitrous cams. Very smooth drawing bow, and very fast.

I will be taking my SlayR into the woods in the fall. With the name like "SlayR," why not take it into the woods!:)

My last bow was a Jag Mag and it was great, killed a lot of deer with that bow. The only reason I got rid of it was buy a new toy, bought one of the high end $600 super bows. Really isnt much different from the $250 Martin bow. The deer cant tell the difference when an arrow is zipping through the boiler room..;);)

The shop that I use to work for carried Martins. I was always impressed them. I even shot one for the shop in the local 3D shoots. I always thought they were solid capable bows. I don't have much experience with the newer models but I am sure they are still making quality equipment. And they do have nice ads................................;)

Thanx everyone for your help. I am gonna shoot a few then make a decision. I wish I had more money to spend but I fell confident that from the reviews that Martin has the bang for the buck. Thanx again.

Don't even worry about not having enough money and getting that dream bow. I bought my Oneida Tomcat many years ago becuase it was what I wanted. Not top of the line but I liked the style. I have killed so many deer with it that I've lost count. I upgraded after a few years of indecision. How can I justify the cost when I'm killing deer? I only upgraded after I set a personal goal. I now shoot Oneida's Black Eagle and I will say barring a major disaster it will be my last compound bow I buy.

Buy your bow, practice and have fun. That's what matters.

Good luck.

RE: Martin Bows???

Spike, the one thing I forgot to mention is that you should also pay attention to the brace height on certain models. The SlayR and Cougar mag are two examples. Really nice bows and fast with the Nitrous cams, but low brace heights. It usually takes an accomplished archer to get the most from a lower braced bow as they are less forgiving.

It's generally accepted that for a novice or intermediate expereienced shooter you should keep the brace above 7". For example, my new ShadowCat that is on order will have a brace of about 9". My SlayR is 6 3/8". I can shoot the SlayR well so I know the ShadowCat is going to be a dream.

Hope this advice helps.

I'v been shooting a Martin for the last 3 years and i absolutly love it. But I think it is all about what kind of style you want to shoot. I like my Martin because its light, quiet, short axel to axel. It is also very forgiving. you should really do your homework though to find a bow that fits you. Hope i helped. Good Luck!!!

RE: Martin Bows???

Well just to drop my 2 cents on this subject ill tell a little story....... Ive bin out off bow hunting for many years now. This last year i taged along with my little brother for an elk hunt here in CO and remebered why i loved it so much. I began researching the market to purchase a new bow several months ago and realized, i still have my old one in storage! Its a Martin Lynx Magnum that i bought around 91 or so. Took it to the local bow shop and had it rebuilt and upadated a bit. Shooting 78# with a 31" draw length (note:no overdraw),125 grain tips and xx75 shafts, this bow is still sailing at around 300 fps. Not bad for an ole school bow :D. So i must say even after shooting many other mfg. bows im still in love with my Martin. :)
