I find those pictures to be real, wether or not the mtn lion was wounded or dead they are still amazing pics. My guess would be those dogs ran it into exhaustion(sp!) and the owner of the mule finished it off, and let the mule have its two cents with it! Cool pics no matter what, I would have enjoyed seeing in person.

Allseason, you would be amazed at what a horse/ mule will pick up in its mouth. I've had a horse try to eat the hood of my truck. I got three big scrapes where his teeth removed the paint.

I think the pics are real. I'm not saying that the cat wasn't already dead, but:

1. When yo uhunt lions with dogs, they don't attack the lions they tree 'em or corner, not attack. The dogs would have been had already.

2. No kidding the rider isn't on the mule, he probably got bucked off. and honestly what would he be able to do to "help" his mule?

3. the argument that the mule wouldn't pick it up with his mouth is definitely absurd. You ever been bitten by a horse?

anyway this is JMHO. cool pics

I got these same pics via email. Not saying the story was not "enhanced" but
here is the story that was attached:

"These pics came from a guy in AZ. Yes, the mule killed the mountain lion.
The lion had been stalking them for the better part of the morning, on
the way out to a hunt. They were pretty sure it was after one of the dogs.
The cat ambushed them, and the mule pictured tossed its rider
and went into attack (defense) mode, the horses scattered and shots
were fired but no one was sure if they hit the cat or not.
Unfortunately, it wasn't until it was almost over that one of the guys
started snapping pics.
The mule finally stomped the cougar to death after biting and throwing
it around like a rag doll.
The dogs wouldn't even come close until the mule settled down."

I got an extra pic in my email. here it is:

I dont think the dogs are stupid enough to mess with a cougar even if it is wounded,

Don't be so sure. It is a lot more likely that they would go after it. Heck my 10# Jack Russel would go after it (Most Jack Russels think their Lions ).

The pics appear to be fairly real to me. Although, being a biology major, If the mule killed the cat, I think the cat was either wounded or an inexperienced Juvenille. It is very unlikely this would happen if the cat was a healthy mature adult.

I think the cat was dead to begin with though

Cool pics though

Correct me if I'm wrong...but is hunting lions with Mules typical? I thought that's what the dogs were for??

Wonder if that Mule would set on point while I'm quail hunting?

Very cool pictures.
