Over 80% of my time is spent on the ground standing and still-hunting.
Hunting public land is kind of tough for me to find a spot, pack in a stand and "Hope" even with a lock it is still there the next day. So I look for ground blinds/natural hides and stalk and spot mostly.

Part of the hunt to me is being on the same level as the animal. I wouldn't pass at the opportunity to hunt out of a tree stand though, the view you would get, the stealthyness of the ambush, the suprise to the animal standing below you, I could imagine that is a great rush in itself.

I've taken all my bowkills from the ground however, and you're right JT, it's exciting, and satisfying.

My first ever bowkill was from the ground. I was leaving the treestand for the day. While heading home, I saw the doe walk in. I simply froze and waited for a good shot.

I really enjoy still-hunting and would like to get into it more. I'm just really not that good at it yet. My "stealth factor" needs work. 90% of the time, I bowhunt from treestands. When shotgunning, I'll split it up equally. I take a seat with me and just setup under a tree.

I am a creeper. Have shot one elk from a tree with a board in it but all others including a 340 bull were stalking or sitting in an oak thicket. I will do tree stands no problem but I just like to be able to move and rest in the bushes. I am trying a portable ground blind this year to see if it is too much of a hassle. Sat in a freinds last year and had two 5x5 elk within 19 yards so like the idea of one. It is a thrill watching the wind and creeping up on an animal and this is makin' me shake as I elk hunt on 10/12! Good luck.

I have killed deer both ways. I have some places where I feel I do better on the ground and others where a tree stand is the only way to go. JT I agree that being on a deers level is a thrill that is hard to surpass.

When it's wet out or with snow down. It's been so danged dry here the past couple of seasons that it's been nearly impossible to still hunt...Squirrels sound like elephants...heck even the bugs can't crawl through that stuff quietly.

I actually heard some rustling in the leaves on one outing and sat patieltly for several hours wondering just what was making the rucus...well I finally spotted ole mr. box turtle a few yards from my stand...now that's dry!<img src=icon_smile_shock.gif border=0 align=middle>

You mean them deer can't smell a liberal? LOL

Hats off to anyone taking a deer at close range with a bow. I imagine that is as difficult as it gets.
