Need help w/Boar Hunting!
All right, gang....need some help here. Going on my first ever wild boar hunt in South Carolina in February. It's a guided trip, but I'd like to be a little more familiar with it before I head out.
As I understand it, they can't see worth a flip, but they can smell pretty good....right? So I need my scent-free stuff? What about my broadheads? I use Rocky Mountain Snypers...will they be okay? Here's my set-up: Mathews Switchback @ 68lbs Copper John Pro sight Beman Carbon Hunter 400's Rocky Mountain Snypers Anything anyone could suggest about the hunt, the game (good to eat? recipes?) the gear, etc. would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! |
RE: Need help w/Boar Hunting!
Most places Ive known of where you can hunt boar, bait them. I have been on several Wild Boar hunts and never used my scent lock gear. It's too expensive to be pig hunting with and I don't think you really need it as long as you don't stink too bad.

RE: Need help w/Boar Hunting!
I use Rocky Mountain 3 blade Razors & Ironheads-60# Compound.
I do not recommend Expandibles but that is personal choice. Broadside shot-right even with knucke of front leg (vitals are low & forward). This is one (Red) I took at Shiloh Bowhunting in Oklahoma-you can see the exit-went 50 yards. Good Luck. It is a blast. I am headed end of March for 3 Bowhunts in Texas for the critters. Stands over feeders (common way to hunt) & a hog/hound Bowhunt-this can get WILD for sure. ![]() |
RE: Need help w/Boar Hunting!
This one was taken with Ray Modisett & his hounds near Lufkin, Tx. A very wild time & a tough, mean hog..
