Will Someone Answer This

Maybe I am just real confused but, when you buy a scent they tell you to set it downwind. They show a nice picture on the back of a hunter and all these scent bombs out in front of him. Which show the wind blowing away from him. Aren't we supposed to hunt with the wind in our face??

Thank you Nick...It seems 15 hunters read this and you were the only one that could, or took the time to answer it.

GutThatBuck, if you are going to use scents as as "lure" instead of a cover, you must be VERY scent-free. I think most people use scents as a cover scent or as a lure in situations where there is a cross wind or the deer passes upwind from you. I think more times than not you will spook deer hunting upwind, even while using scents and lures.
One thing I've done that works great is to use the scents on a drag rag while walking in. I prefer this method much better than just setting up a bottle of doe urine and hoping a bucks gets wind of it. Hope this helps. Try it all, scent hunting can be very fun.

I agree with Belle on this one. If you put out scent bombs you should set up your stand so that there is a cross wind and hopefully the buck will get a nose full of your lure before getting your scent. I have used drag rags and continue to do so, but I have yet to have a buck come prancing through the woods nose to the ground on the trail I laid.

Thanks for the help gang. HuntingBry, I have tried lures with the same luck. I love using them, but I have never seen them work. I have never had a positive or negative reaction ot them. I always use a drag and then I hang the drag out about 20 yards and use it as a marker. I have had deer walk 15 yards from it, but they never came in. They acted as if there was nothing too smell. I was using #307 and I could smell the stuff so I figured they damn sure could.

well heres my feelings on this situation. when you enter the woods you should be as acent free as possible. i do not beleive in cover scents except if they are the scents from the areas that you are hunting in. i will give you a proven example. i hunt in mi. and my brother in florida. when he came to hunt here all his camo was in cedar chips. here is the problem there are no cedar trees on my dairy farm, therefore the deer rejected this scent. i finally talked him in to walking into the dairy barn and getting alittle of the cow smell on him and !!!! wham!!! 10 point that night. mabe lucky dont think so.

i also feel that if you do not begin with mock scrapes hat you are just pouring you money on the ground. i run a string o 8 mock scrapes using different lures for the different times and man do the bucks (especially dominant ones) tear them up.

try it you will be suprised at the results.

you should place the scent up wind of you at 20 to 30 yards. the buck will come in down wind of the scent. which will give you a good broad side shot.

Well if you trust your scent enough then you might want to try to have it blow towards the deer so they can smell it, i truly dont trust mine enough to do that, but it might be a good option.

I use the code blue doe estrous from knight and hale and have good success with it. I place my scent bombs in all four sides of me. If they smell it there coming regardless of wind. I place 25 yds from tree, easy shot with bow.
