Laws are there for a reason, break them and pay the price! Tell the Judge that you thought the animal was suffering so you thought it was the right thing to do, he might not think the same as you! His ethics might not be the same as yours!!! You as the hunetr will pay the price.

To me the smart thing to do is back out and wait till morning, if ya can't come back in the morning don't hunt the night before or don't take the shot. You owe it to the animal: Respect.

Know your limitations!!!!!!

Very intresting bowhunting fool, it comes down to law and ethics?
What if some person was drowning in a pond and there was a sign that said, "NO SWIMMING"?
You do what you have to sometimes and ethics take the prioity to me as opposed to the law. Bobby

This season I shot a small buck at 20 yards, The shot was an excellent shot, complete pass through. The deer just walked away, I waited about an hour before I started falling the blood trail. At this time it was dark and I was using a flashlight to follow the blood trail. While following the blood trail I would stop and shine the light around, 25 yards away I saw the eyes glowing. It was my deer bedded down looking at me.......what would you do?
If I felt the shot was safe to take, I'd shoot it. No way I would just because I could see "eyes".

You know you can basically take the judge out of this equation. Why because a bow doesn't make any noise. So what is the chance you would ever get caught for shooting the animal again?

It's a matter of personal ethics.

I would really have to respectfully disagree.

Here is a for instance. I have a deer get hit by a car in front of my house a couple days ago. The deer could not walk but wasn't dead. Now I could have gone outside with a knife and finished it, but I won't because I have not been given that right within my suburban area. An officer came and put a bullet in it 20 yards from my house. However, the deer did not die right away, and the officer left. Fifteen minutes later it was still thrashing, long after the officer left. Did I feel bad and empty, of course. But it was not up to me to make the decision, and I won't have my son seeing me do something against the law. I'm not saying what some of you people feel are wrong at all, and I would not have any bad feeling toward anyone for making their own decision. It's just not the same as mine.

Back to the post, if I felt it was a great shot, I would have tracked at night without my bow in hand. If I came upon the deer still alive, I would have backed out as quietly as possible and came back in the morning. How many coyotes in the area would not have altered my decision.

Well I wouldn't want my son to see me watching a deer suffer and not put it out of it's misery.

You ever gone a couple miles an hour over the speed limit with your kid in the car?

Come on Charlie. Give me a break. Sounds like you want to get into a bickering match. Like I said I have nothing against your decision, you have nothing at all to prove, but for some reason you keep trying to. I, like you hate to see anything suffer, I'm sure. Our opinions just vary on what to do about it.
