Country Club Deer

Well I have lost my lease to the big money hunters, so I have to bowhunt what we call "country club deer". I live in the texas hill country and we have lots of deer a lot of them live in the subdivisions and need to be taken out, over population.I set up a few stands, and there is a few nice bucks around but I don't feel its much of a hunt if the deer arn:t spooked by man or cars or the school bus. It just feels strange to sit in a stand and hear the phone ring from the house.Anyone else hunt "country club deer" and how do you feel about it? I wish I was back on my lease, but at least I get to hunt.

I have hunted areas like that many times, and I will assure you you will find a new name for them by the end of this season. They are no easier to hunt than other areas less populated.

They tolerate busses and cars because they know they are no danger to them. They also tolerate man, as long as "man" is where he is supposed to be (street, road, jogging trail). They do not tolerate man in there safezones, and will go nocturnal quickly if they find out Joe the barbecue guy is now walking through there bedding areas.

Good luck, you will need no less of it

texastracker I think you may be in for a very big surprise, some of those county club deer can be sharp cookies. I have hunted a few places over the years that were very close to houses and the deer can be just as smart. Do not get me wrong if they have not been hunted before they may be easy at first, but they wise up real quick.

Rack-attack I have hunted this type of deer alot and they do act differntly then deep woods deer, and they are easer to take IF you don'twant the big bucks but you are right the old and wise bucks will go nucturnal quickly. But a hunt is a hunt if you enjoy it.

I agree with you that it is just not the same hearing all of the sounds of the hustle and bustle of "human life". I long to go on my one week sabatical to remote farmland to get away from all of the nature walkers, horseback riders, ATV riders, trespassers, poachers, psychopaths, kids, planes, trains, automobiles, dogs, sirens, horns, etc, etc. I've seen it all out of my suburban stands and also agree with previously mentioned posts that these deer know when you are hunting them. I will also tell you that the biggest monster I have ever killed scored 172 and died within 50 yards of a neighboring driveway and residential neighborhood.

Wolfen I have had them die in the neighbors yard before and thats not good if the neighbor is a tree hugger. I try to get it before they know its there.

I hunted with a friend last year in the same type set up as you've discribed. I found it a little easier than the big woods deer only because they were easier to pattern. Less area to hide and travel in.

All bets are off once they catch on that their being hunted.
