I dont get it. Isnt the object to get a fast bow that will deliver the arrow before the prey knows its coming? Please explain.

To fast. Heavier arrows will give better pentration and quiet the bow down. It will also be more accurate.;)

Take DoubleCreek's bow and arrow, but with 65 pounds and a 31" draw. What would that be?

RE: Don't want to still a post but.........

You would be looking at 285ish with all things being equal except DL and draw weight.

Unless you are shooting a high powered rifle, you cannot shoot an arrow fast enough to betray an alert whitetail. The idea is flatter trajectory, taking out SOME of the yardage guesswork. JMO

But that doesnt tell me why it would be to fast to hunt with.

Hypothetically... lets say your getting close to some bows advertised speed of , lets say 310 fps ibo. Thats 109 yards per second. We are shooting 20 - 30 yards. Thats less than half of a second from release to impact. Now I know that 310 fps ibo is very rarly achieved, if ever. So say 240 fps, thats 80 yards per second. Still gonna get there pretty damn fast. And a deer that doesnt know your there, will be hit before it hears it.

Correct me if I am wrong, but a flatter trajectory is achieved by a faster bow. The faster the bow, the flatter the line.

RE: Don't want to still a post but.........

flintflinger, the speed of sound is like 1100 ft/sec or something around there. Unless your shooting that fast the deer can and will react. Thats why I worry about quietness and not speed. The heavier the arrow the quieter. The only thing speed gains is trajectory which helps in yardage estimating. If you practice at different distance this shouldn't be a problem.
